Think about the happiest time in your life.
Think about it so long,
recalling mental pictures of it,
until you feel happy now.

Now forget the mental pictures,
and look at the happiness.
Where do you feel it in your mind?
What is it's quality?
What is its sensation?
What is its colour?
How does it feel in your body?

Look at a beautiful thing that you own.
See it,
touch it,
smell it,
touch it,
hear it.
Do this until you feel happy.

Then put it away so that you can't:
See it,
touch it,
smell it,
touch it,
hear it.
Then look at the happiness alone.

Think of a person,
a millionaire,
who's just brought a skyscraper,
and feels happiness because of it.

Think of a child on Christmas morning,
running downstairs,
seeing their presents waiting,
and feeling happy because of them.

They close their eyes,
no skyscraper,
no presents.
The blackness of closed eyelids.

Is their happiness the same?

Think of a beggar,
homeless,
in Calcutta,
who feels sad.

Think of a movie star,
lonely,
in Hollywood,
who feels sad.

They close their eyes.
No Calcutta.
No Hollywood.
The blackness,
of their closed eyelids.

Is their sadness the same?

YES NO
