 ALL-TFFL 2003
| FIRST TEAM |
| QUARTERBACK: Daunte Culpepper, Heelbillys |
Numbers: 219 points in 14 starts
Drafted: 8th pick in the 2nd round (No. 18 overall), 4th among QBs
Wayne went with his heart (do Carolina and Yankee fans have those?) on draft day and took the Vikings quarterback. It turned out to be a good move, but then again can you go wrong with a QB who has Randy Moss to throw to? |
| RUNNING BACK: Priest Holmes, Heelbillys |
Numbers: 245 points in 16 starts
Drafted: 3rd pick in the 1st round (No. 3 overall), 3rd among RBs
Priest followed up his record-setting 247-point season with a 245-point effort, becoming just the second player in TFFL history to repeat as points champion (Brett Favre, 1996-97). This may be the first time one team has had the top two individual scorers, but T-Bird2 may have pulled the feat in 1996 with Brett Favre and John Kasay (even I don't have the time to do that kind of research). |
| RUNNING BACK: Ahman Green, Jellypop Fighters |
Numbers: 214 points in 16 starts
Drafted: 4th pick in the 2nd round (No. 14 overall), 10th among RBs
There weren't a lot of good choices on McGee's convoluted draft day instruction guide, but the high priority placed on getting Ahman Green worked out well, as the Packer RB rebounded from a sub-par 2002 and registered double-figure scoring in 10 of his 16 starts. |
| RUNNING BACK: LaDainian Tomlinson, Berserkers |
Numbers: 211 points in 16 starts
Drafted: 2nd pick in the 1st round (No. 2 overall), 2nd among RBs
As if T-Bird needed another reason to feel bad about his season, here's a little tidbit: Ricky Williams, the only player drafted ahead of LT2, had the lowest average points per start among first-round picks. |
| WIDE RECEIVER: Randy Moss, Springfield Isotopes |
Numbers: 192 points in 17 starts
Drafted: 9th pick in the 1st round (No. 9 overall), 1st among WRs
Goodbye Randy Ratio, hello serious production. This was the greatest season ever for a TFFL WR, as Moss bested his 1998 mark by two points. |
| WIDE RECEIVER: Torry Holt, Gamblers |
Numbers: 146 points in 16 starts
Drafted: 5th pick in the 4th round (No. 35 overall), 9th among WRs
It's the first time a Wolfpacker has made the All-TFFL team! Now how did he end up on the squad of a Georgia Tech grad? And who was the dope that drafted K-Rob two spots ahead of Holt? Ummm ... |
| TIGHT END: Tony Gonzalez, Berserkers |
Numbers: 83 points in 17 starts
Drafted: 2nd pick in the 5th round (No. 42 overall), 1st among TEs
The Berserkers saw through all the smoke and mirrors of those "experts" who said Jeremy Shockey -- and even Todd Heap -- were better fantasy TEs. It's (only?) the third All-TFFL first-team selection for Touchdown Tony. |
| KICKER: Mike Vanderjagt, Gamblers |
Numbers: 161 points in 16 starts
Drafted: 6th pick in the 11th round (No. 106 overall), 4th among Ks
When your kicker breaks the NFL's record for field goals in a season, you're livin' large. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Take Tony Dungy's kicker, and you'll be a happy man. |
| DEFENSE: New England Patriots, Berserkers |
Numbers: 143 points in 14 starts
Drafted: 9th pick in the 10th round (No. 99 overall), 8th among Ds
If Bill Belichik doesn't win Coach of the Year, someone needs to make sure the BCS isn't in charge of the NFL as well. You know anything about baseball, Bill? Want to manage the Red Sox? |
THE SECOND TEAM
These guys wanted a first-team trophy real bad, but they instead get the crummy certificate with the commish's signature and some gold-foil seal on it.
QB: Peyton Manning, T-Bird2
203 points in 15 starts | Drafted in 3rd round, No. 21 overall
It's the fifth straight season Manning has been one of the top two QBs.
RB: Jamal Lewis, Alabama Strippers
180 points in 16 starts | Drafted in 1st round, No. 10 overall
A somewhat questionable first-round pick at the time, Lewis rewarded Mike's faith with three games of 27 points or better.
RB: Clinton Portis, Jayhawks
173 points in 14 starts | Drafted in 1st round, No. 4 overall
He's a second-teamer for the second straight year, and might have been first team if not for Week 15 injuries.
RB: Shaun Alexander, Gamblers
142 points in 16 starts | Drafted in 1st round, No. 6 overall
People are starting to accuse him of being consistent after his third straight 1st- or 2nd-team selection.
WR: Marvin Harrison, Jayhawks
119 points in 14 starts | Drafted in 2nd round, No. 16 overall
Marvin was good but not exactly marvelous, putting up goose eggs in his last five starts.
WR: Santana Moss, Berserkers
109 points in 15 starts | Drafted in 15th round, No. 142 overall
Easily the surprise of the year and best draft value. Kudos to Kev!
TE: Shannon Sharpe, Springfield Isotopes
60 points in 15 starts | Drafted in 11th round, No. 109 overall
The old man had one good season left in him after all.
K: John Kasay, T-Bird2
116 points in 14 starts | Signed as a FA on 9/24
A classic Kasay season, although the magic he had with T-Bird in Season I wasn't there.
D: Baltimore Ravens, Springfield Isotopes
134 points in 15 starts | Drafted in 10th round, No. 92 overall
They're elite once again even without Marvin Lewis. Just be sure you're not at the same Super Bowl party as Ray Lewis.
2003 FLUSHES
The draft picks you wish you could have back.
QB: Drew Bledsoe, Springfield Isotopes
73 points in 15 starts | Drafted in 2nd round, No. 12 overall
Less than five points per start for the third quarterback selected.
RB: Corey Dillon, Heelbillys
12 points in 9 starts | Drafted in 3rd round, No. 23 overall
He wasn't even the best RB on the Bengals.
RB: William Green, Gamblers
11 points in 4 starts | Drafted in 3rd round, No. 26 overall
He was a draft bust but a trade value for the Gamblers, who pawned him off on Todd's dumb ass for Joe Horn.
RB: Antowain Smith, T-Bird2
0 points in 1 start | Drafted in 4th round, No. 40 overall
Surely there are better options in the 4th round.
WR: Eric Moulds, T-Bird2
16 points in 8 starts | Drafted in 2nd round, No. 20 overall
The fourth WR selected posted a whopping two points per start.
WR: Donald Driver, Carolina Killers
0 points in 7 starts | Drafted in 4th round, No. 37 overall
Just one bust in a long line of disasters for the Killahs in 2003.
TE: Marcus Pollard, T-Bird2
0 points in 3 starts | Drafted in 7th round, No. 61 overall
Not what you want to see out of the fourth TE selected.
K: David Akers, T-Bird2
5 points in 2 starts | Drafted in 10th round, No. 100 overall
The third kicker selected. Noticing a T-Bird trend here?
D: Pittsburgh Steelers, Jayhawks
12 points in 2 starts | Drafted in 10th round, No. 93 overall
My grandma could line up at WR and burn Dwayne Washington or Chad Scott for a TD.
