The Commish: Changes for 2001
Posted 5/24/01

After some serious procrastination by the Wile E. Coyotes and further procrastination by the Commish, here are the results of voting for TFFL's suggested rule changes. The drum roll please ...

Auction Draft
Yay: 2
Nay: 7
Motion Fails

And people complained about last year's draft taking too long. If you can't stand three hours, try eight for an auction! Can you fathom the number of times Bubba would threaten to quit the league in an eight-hour time frame?

Keeper League
Yay: 3
Nay: 6
Motion Fails

At least this suggestion is a keeper. I think this is the third straight year we have considered it.

The total game yardage issue
Yay: 6
Nay: 3
Motion Passes

There were, of course, two different suggestions for how to do this, and the first one won, 3 1/2 votes to 2 1/2.

The new way:

  • For quarterbacks, passing and rushing yardage will be combined. 3 points will be awarded for 250-299 yards; and 5 points for 300-plus.
  • For running backs and receivers, rushing and receiving yardage will be combined. 3 points will be awarded for 100-149; 5 for 150-199; and 8 for 200-plus.

Alter Process for Submitting Weekly Lineups
    Yay: 8
    Nay: 1
    Motion Passes

Batcho was mostly right when he said he thought that's how it was now, it's really just a procedural thing to help the Commish. So, from the bottom of my heart, thanks.

Change Scoring for Defensive Touchdown to 7 Points and a Safety to 4.
    Yay: 3
    Nay: 6
    Motion Fails

When we're bickering over this kind of stuff, we're really getting down to the nitty gritty.

Award Points to Defenses for Yards Allowed
    Yay: 2
    Nay: 7
    Motion Fails

This would have been too much work for the Commish anyway.

Head-2-Head Bonus for Team with Most Yards from Scrimmage
    Yay: 0
    Nay: 9
    Motion Fails

This was such a crummy suggestion that the guy who submitted it didn't even vote for it.

Waive Entry Fee for the Commish
    Yay: 5
    Nay: 3
    Motion Passes

    A) Yes, this was suggested, and not by the Commish!
    B) I abstained from this vote, and it still passed!

Seriously, I, and future Commishes, appreciate this gesture. Rest assured, I've already been working for you! Aside from a few technical glitches, and lack of a 10th owner, TFFL 2001 is ready to go!

Award Defensive Points for Blocked Kicks, Punts and Field Goals
    Yay: 1
    Nay: 8
    Motion Fails

Although it failed miserably, this suggestion brings back good memories of Terrence Holt and the Pack putting on a block party in a win over Texas to start out the 1999 season. Of course, there was that one incident where Bubba almost threw his shoe at my TV.

As you can see, there are more 'F's here than on my first report card at State. ... Luckily for those of you pushing hard for a keeper league, support is growing. I think it gains a vote each year, so in another three years, who knows. ... Yeah, this page is colored like a Christmas tree, but when you get TFFL news in May, doesn't it feel like a gift from Santa? ... We'll open the suggestion box back up sometime next year.
