NASA's 75th in the history of the program was highlighted by the flight of the Italian Tethered Satellite System, a payload designed to investigate new sources of spacecraft power and ways to study Earth's upper atmosphere.  Although the tether broke before it had reeled out all the way, the satellite continued to function for several days, and scientists gained a wealth of science from the data it sent to the ground. STS-75 also saw Columbia's seven-person crew work with the United States Microgravity Payload, which continued research efforts into development of new materials and processes that could lead to a new generation of computers, electronics and metals.

Launch of Columbia occurred as scheduled February 22, 1996, at 3:18 p.m. EST from Kennedy Space Center's Launch Complex 39-B. The STS-75 mission was scheduled to last 14 days, 16 hours, 14 minutes, but it was extended two days. It landed Saturday, March 9, 1996 at 7:58 a.m.  CST at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

The Swatch's Access to Space was also sent to space with the STS-75.  And the watch itself with the hip bag were distributed to Swatch club members during the tour in Luzern.  The watch should be used to enter the tourist attraction in the city.
