"Don't waste time being obsessed by it" is the motto of the graduate in art history from Provence, who headed for Paris intending to work in a museum but somewhere along the line became one of France's greatest couturiers. Lacroix wallows in luxurious fabrics, colors and ornamentation. In his eyes, calling something "opulent" is not an insult - it automatically makes it even more attractive and desirable. Lashings of gold, crosses and hearts are his trademark. One of the few times he held back was when he designed a watch for Swatch.
