The Cobra 427 is an extremely simple and well built car. The engine was pushed far back in the engine bay which resulted in a good overall weight balance. A light-weight aluminum body combined with the brute big-block 427 made the cobra an instant success both off and on the race track.  The roots of Cobra stem from the Ace which was produced in 1954 by AC. In 1961 Carol Shelby saw the potential in the design and decided to throw a V8 under the hood. By 1965 he had upgraded the powerplant to the potent Ford 427 for competition use.  In 1965 Shebly had 31 extra competition cars that were unsold and unhomologated. He decided to throw windscreens on them all and sell one of the most radical sports / competition cars for the road. The legendary Cobra 427 S/C was born.  Due to the very limited numbers involved with the road going version of the 427, these cars can fetch anywhere from $200 000 to $500 000 USD.
Now for What's under the hood/chasis:
It had a Front Engine / RWD Water Cooled V8 6997 cc / 427.0 cu in  409.9 bhp @ 5600 rpm 58.58 bhp per litre 4-Speed Manual Transmition.  With all of that inside it's top speed was 165.0 mph and was able to do 0-60 in 4.5 seconds, and 0-100 in 10.3 seconds!  Not bad for a little sports coupe back in the 60's.

Now doesn't that just make you wanna hop right on in and peel out?!
