  1. Who is Jackie Robinson?
  2. Who is Ruby Bridges?
  3. Who is Martin Luther King Jr.?
  4. Who is Rosa Parks?
  5. Who is Matthew Henson?

There are a lot of African American people I have never heard of. For example, Matthew Henson. He was born in Charles County, Maryland on August 8,1867. When he was 13 he took a position as a cabin boy on a merchant ship. Due to racism and prejudice, he left the ship at age 18. After returning he met Robert Peary, a lieutenant in U.S. Navy. Peary offerend Henson a job as a servant on an expedition to Nicaragua. He learned everything he needed to know for the native Innuit to live in the extreme climates of this hostile environment. On April 7, 1909, Peary, Henson, and other Innuit's reached the North Pole.

Jackie Robinson is also another famous person. He was the first American American major league baseball player. Jackie was born on January 31, 1919 in Cairo, Georgia, and died on October 24, 1972 in Stamford, Connecticut. Jackie palyed second baseman and was right handed. He also played for the Kansas City Monarchs in 1945 and Booklyn Dogers in 1947-1956. He was in the 1947 World Series, 1949 World Series, 1952 World Series, 1953 World Series, 1955 World Series, and1956 World Series. He won many awards such as the All-Star during 1949-1954; Nation League MVP 1949; Rookie of the Year 1947.He was also selected to be in the Hall Of Fame in 1962.

Harriet Tubman was born in 1820 in Dorchester County, Maryland and died on March 10, 1913 in Auburn, New York. She led hundreds of slaves toward freedom in the north, going through the Underground Railroad. She did this by hididng slaves in a safe house. How did they know it was a safe house? The white people put out certain quilts to symbolize if it was safe to stay there. She later became a leader in the abolitionist movement. She was also a spy for federal forces and nurse in South Carolina.
