Aquila
Aquila continues to amaze me. From the day I got him he has been a dream. He trained easily, and always, always put effort out on every slip. His hunting style is without compare. He has began to exhibit a great deal of intelligence, he choses his slips carefully, only going down when he is sure of himself. Part of that, though is due to the dificulty of his training. I fly him in a field which is frequented by dog trainers. As a consequence his quarry is very elusive, and by that I mean that the rabbits are used to flushing, and then RUNNING. They know tricks that I have never seen in any other field. When I take him to other fields, the flights I see there are not nearly as fun as the ones in this field. They are under his skill level. These rabbits, though, give some awesome slips. I've come home empty handed, but happier than when I returned with a double kill from some other fields. I've seem him crash the brush from about 40 feet in the air. I've seen him stoop, actually stoop, flip on his back and head straight down, then recover, stay on the rabbit and make another attempt. He does not stoop much, he normally either crashes the brush, just winging it straight in, or does a wingover, tucking one wing, and then flipping over. Mainly, though, he takes game by brush crashing. He hasn't turned up a slip at squirrels, all three of them, but has only taken one. The best flights have been at rabbits. If I ever have to do a creative writing assignment, I will put it up here, because you can guess what I will write about.
