What  you need to know about your childs dance teacher
My dance students with me at the end of our Recital.
Your questions answered:
Q: How long have you been teaching dance?
A: I have been teaching for seven years. But before I Became a teacher I was a apprentice for my mother for three years; who is also a dance teacher.
Q: What are your qualifications?
A: I am a fourth generation dance teacher. I started dancing at three years old. I have instructed in many cities including St. Louis, Chicago and now in Omaha. I studied with my Mother mostly but never limited myself. I have studied gymnastics, swing dancing and jazz with other teachers. And as a good teacher will tell you will never quit learning different aspecs of dance.
Q: What can my child really learn in one hour a week?
A: Every child learns differently. But in my experience I relizied that children retain information very well. Most children hate homework; but I always give them alot to take home to practice. It never fails because almost every child comes back the next week  excited. They found some way to do a step or a dance I showed them on their own. Either in front of the mirror, or with their friend or even by you watching them. And because I am only with them once a week I just point them in the right direction. It's strange to think about but dancing comes from the inside out not the other way around.
Q: What can my child learn from you that they can't from another stuido?
A: Lots of stuido's break their classes down to competitive classes and non-competitive classes. Many times you will see a pattern.  The experenced teachers won't bother with the non-competitive classes. And insted toss them off to the inexperenced or new teachers. And that seems odd to me because it is beginner dancers that need the extra attention. I give every dancer of mine as much help as I can. And I am the only teacher who instructs any of my classes. And also I stand by my philosophy that dancing is fun. And it should be understood that children are comming to class to have fun! Not to feel bad because they can't pick up a step or learn a dance right away.
