| Valentine Poem |
| ONE year ago today | 1996 |
| Is where I begin this poem. |
| We were frantic, stressed and nervous |
| We were trying to build a home. |
| TWO years ago | 1995 |
| The two became a three. |
| A spark of life, a gift from God, |
| We were blessed with Jenna Marie. |
| THREE years ago | 1994 |
| Excited were we |
| The ten month process had begun, |
| Would it be Dorcus or Zachary? |
| FOUR years ago | 1993 |
| The cancer was done. |
| Life is precious, life is sweet, |
| Life is what you make it; so have fun. |
| FIVE years ago | 1992 |
| It happened oh so quick. |
| The doctors and the chemo-therapy; |
| Faith and strong mind was the trick. |
| SIX years ago | 1991 |
| It was like deja vu. |
| We were back in Minnesota, in Bloominton, |
| And the same apartments, too! |
| SEVEN years ago | 1990 |
| We lived in the same place, |
| But we worked different hours. |
| Being together was a grace |
| EIGHT years ago | 1989 |
| We moved toward the sun. |
| California Dreamin'. |
| I got a badge and a gun |
| NINE years ago | 1988 |
| For me things weren't soaring. |
| Part-time jobs |
| And school was getting boring. |
| TEN years ago | 1987 |
| You're at Wyatt, I'm in school. |
| We begin a life on our own, |
| Two reckless and care-free fools. |
| ELEVEN years ago | 1986 |
| My enlistment is complete. |
| We were both without a job |
| And standing on shaky feet. |
| TWELVE year ago this year | 1985 |
| We stood together at the alter. |
| We said our vows |
| That our love would never falter. |
| Many years from now |
| I know we will still be as one. |
| My love for you is forever. |
| It will never be undone. |
