How to build a banked corner
E-mail me
A banked corner or a berm is a raised area on a track or trail that really helps you turn without decreasing a lot of your needed speed. They are used in bmx racing.

When creating a banked corner or a berm always dig on the outside of your turn because you really want the inside to stay level. Pile the dirt in a curved way. Build it high enough so that you don't fall out out while gaining your speed. Estimate the speed or m.p.h. you need to hit the jump, for dirt jumpers.  Each 5 m.p.h. you go you need about ten in. to a foot. So 5 m.p.h.-1 foot,10 m.p.h. 2 feet,15 m.p.h. 3 feet etc.... When finishing the piling you must decrease the height at the end of the turn so you don't come out of it falling on your side. Basically following a path. Pack it down on the back of you corner starting top to bottom then smooth out the turn with a flat shovel. Spaded leave divots in your turn. Trust me when finished you'll feel the difference. It may feel awkward for a little while when you first ride the corner but you'll get the hang of it.
