Mystery Novel Log Questions

Mystery Book Reading Log

Directions: Divide your mystery novel into ten equal parts. Read one section for each log question. Answer each question on loose leaf, using at least 5 wonderful sentences.

1. Describe the person who seems to be the main character in the mystery novel. Is this person anything at all like you? If so, how. If not, why is he or she so different?

2. What seems to be the mystery? Describe what you understand about it so far.

3. Describe the novel’s setting. Explain how the setting fits in with the mystery.

4. Explain how the mystery is being solved.

5. Describe in detail one of the characters who is a big part of the mystery.

6. Explain what makes the novel’s mystery most interesting. Be creative and describe your own idea of what could make it even more interesting.

7. Imagine yourself spending an evening smack dab in the middle of your book. Describe how you would spend your evening. You may do things with the characters or not.

8. Describe what has been your favorite part of the book so far.

9. Explain how exactly the mystery was solved.

10. What did you like or not like about this book? Would you read another book by the same author? Do you like mystery novels?
