Fantasy Reading Log

Directions:

• Select a fantasy or science fiction novel that you think you will enjoy reading.
• Read every question below before reading the book.
• Answer the questions as you read the book.
• Neatly hand write or type the final report and make a nice, illustrated cover with the book’s title, author and your name.

1. Describe who seems to be the main character so far in the story. What do you like and dislike about this character? Be specific and explain your thoughts well.

2. Describe the setting. How is the setting perfect for a fantasy/science fiction novel?

3. What seems to be the main problem in the story? What seems to be the plan for solving it or how do you think it will be solved?

4. If you were a character in this story, who or what would you be? What would your name be? What would you look like?  What would you be doing and why?

5. What appeals or does not appeal to you about this story so far? In other words, what do you really like or not like about it?

6. How is the world or setting in this story different and/or similar to our world?

7. Now that the end of the novel is near, redefine the main problem. That is, explain the problem in the story. Predict how it will eventually be solved.

8. Summarize one of your favorite parts of the story.  Explain why it was one of your favorite parts.

9. Summarize how the book ended. Explain what you liked or didn't like about the end.

10. Would you read another book by this author? Why or why not?
