Undergrad Christmas
by: Jason Sinkhorn

Narrator: (Rod Serling type voice) Imagine if you will an undergrad.  Embarking on his life's journey.  Getting his own apartment, a girlfriend, and his parent's still live close enough to visit often.  As the days roll by his school gets tougher, and he also has to hold down two jobs.  Before he knows it the holidays arrive and his life turns quickly into a nightmare.  His name is Roger.  He is twenty years old.  His girlfriend's name is Samantha.  Our tale begins as these two are discussing the time-honored tradition of gift exchange.

Roger: Hey babe.

Samantha: Hi.  How was class?

Roger: It was good…only three people walked out today.

Sam: Hey that's better than last week.

Roger: Yeah I guess.  Maybe I should just drop it too.  Get in more hours at work.

Sam: Speaking of work, are they making you work Christmas?

Roger: Actually no.  They just hired this new guy so I got seniority preference of which holiday I wanted to work.  I picked Hanukkah.

Sam: Smart.

Roger: I thought so.  So what do you want this year?

Sam: Whatever you get me is fine.

Roger: Why do women always say that.  It's not true.  If we mess up it always comes back to haunt us.

Sam: No it doesn't.

Roger: Oh yeah?  Prime example.  Last year I bought you that gift certificate to your favorite restaurant and a candle.  By the end of January you were complaining how the candle melted too fast and that you didn't get much use out of the certificate.

Sam: That's because I ordered cheese sticks and you ordered a steak and salad bar…and I had to make up the difference.
