Leaves

      Leaves

We don't have much of a fall season in our area, but luckily our school has many trees that change color and drop thick layers of leaves in November. The students will often spontaneously sing the leaves song as they wait for the bus, even at the end of the school year when the leaves are long gone.

We put our names in this song in the pocket chart.
When we sing it outside we can't resist throwing leaves into the air.

The leaves are falling down,
The leaves are falling down,
All over _________
And all over town.

We go outside and observe the tree outside our classroom. We draw the tree and write about it. We go back and observe it several times to see and record the changes.

Leaves are also great for math sorting and measuring. The students love to find giant leaves outside on the playground and bring them in to put on the science table.
