July 4th Bedtime Stories

After the children finish the swimming and the picnics, there is always a
wait for it to get dark enough for fireworks. What a great time to sit with your
child or grandchild and read some books about America! I find that even my
young students are always very interested in learning about the history
of their country when it is presented in colorful books.
Here are some that they always enjoy.

If I Were President  (Catherine Stier)
They love to learn what the president does and this makes it
easy to understand. Very colorful.

A. Lincoln and Me (Borden & Lewin)
Great book about Abraham Lincoln that appeals to modern children.

Curious George and the Hot Air Balloon (M. Rey)
The little monkey goes to Mount Rushmore. It's fun and educational.

The Story of the Statue of Liberty (B.& G. Maestro)
Amazing illustrations - totally captivates my students.
