From Buffalo to Alaska. Day 1 - 8/17/96

They're off! A huge throng gathered at Buffalo Air Park to wish bon voyage to the crew.
When time for takeoff finally arrived, the first takeoff had to be aborted, as a doe and two fawns sauntered across the runway. The crew chased them down the runway with the plane until they were at a safe distance, then returned to the runway for takeoff.

The first leg, Buffalo to Cleveland (Lakefront), took 90 minutes, at about 3000 feet. The weather throughout the day was fine for flying, but too hazy for aerial photographs, so they will have to wait.

After a quick turnaround in Cleveland, the second leg took us to South Bend, Indiana, in about 120 minutes, where we stopped for the night. We did manage to take a photo of a famous South Bend landmark, however, just after dinner.

Tomorrow we're off to Minneapolis (Lake Elmo airport), on a flight of about 450 miles.
