Chapter 1
*********
There I was. 21 years old, no boyfriend, small
apartment, and a job that seemed like it was going
just about nowhere. I was digging into my lasagna
and looking through old album books. I flipped
through the pages of memories and there he was. I
tried to throw out every picture I had ever had of him
out, but I missed this one. The worse part about it
is it was my favorite picture of he and I. His arms
wrapped around my little body, the creases of his
mouth were tilted upwards into a smile, and his eyes
looking into mine. My dad loved that picture. He
told me it looked like we were in love at that one-day
we knew we’d be married. The sad part about the whole
thing is, I thought we would too. Obviously, he had
other plans.
“Justin Timberlake, the cute one of N Sync.” I said in
my most announcement guy voice. Then I made my tone
soft again, “But I knew him when he was Justin
Randall.”
I remember this day like it was yesterday. It was my
12th birthday. Justin and I had been best friends
since we were 1 years old. His mom and my mom were
friends since they were in 5th grade. Sadly my mom
died when I was 4 years old. I remember his mom and
my dad planned out this major surprise party for me.
This picture was taken right after I saw what
happened.
***April 2nd 1993***
“You like it?” His excited voice squeaked.
“I love it.” My eyes grew in excitement.
“Kids smile for a picture!” Lynn said holing the
camera in her face.
“Momma.” Justin whined. He hated taking pictures.
“Justin Randall, now.” His moms voice got demanding.
“Alright.” Justin threw his arms around me and I
placed my arms around his waist. I was always told
that you could never fall in love when you were young
but I did. I was in love and I knew it. Every time
his skin touched mine chills would run up and down my
spine. Every time he complemented me my heart jumped
into my throat, “Rebecca.”
I looked up at him as his mom took the picture, “Yes?”
***
My thoughts were interrupted the ring of my phone,
“Hello?” I answered.
“Bee, I need you to come to the studio.” I heard my
sister’s voice on the other end of the phone.
“Why?” I complained. I love my job, I really do, but
it was my day off and I haven’t had a day off in such
a long time.
“Because TJ wants to put you some where else.” Amiee
said.
“What do you mean?” I asked placing my fork onto my
empty plate.
“He wants to promote you Becca. He wants you to be
Assistant manager.” Amiee’s voice grew in excitement.
“Oh my God! I’ll be there in ten minutes.” I hung up
the phone and ran to get dressed.
**
“She’s one of my best workers. Trust me you guys will
be totally thrilled to meet her.” TJ said to the five
men standing before him.
“Is that her?” Chris pointed into the direction of of
where I standing.
My light brown hair lied on my shoulders leading into
my white tank top that sat a little above my naval
ring. My dark blue jeans lied on my hips and my dark
green eyes explored the people in front of me.
“Hey!” TJ ran to my side. I didn’t say a word. I'm
sure I looked like I wanted to cry, “I wanted you to
come to the studio so you could meet the guys that you
are co-managing.”
“Oh.” My eyes still stayed forward and unfocused.
“This is N Sync, Chris Kirkpatrick, Lance Bass, Joey
Fatone, JC Chasez, and Justin Timberlake, guys this
is….” TJ tried to finish his sentence.
“Rebecca Walker.” Justin finished his sentence.
***May 23rd 1995***
“Momma, I have to go say good-bye to Rebecca.” Justin
whined looking out of the window of his empty house.
“Justin, she’s not home.” Lynn said grabbing the last
of her boxes.
“Momma, we have to wait.” Justin said.
He desperately wanted to see his best friend before he
had to leave for Orlando. He was so excited; N Sync
was actually going to happen. Chris called him last
night and told him to pack his stuff. He knew he
couldn’t leave without telling Rebecca good-bye,
giving her a kiss, and give her his new address.
“Justin, our plane leaves in two hours and as much as
I love Rebecca and her family we have to go. You can
write her, I don’t think she’s going anywhere.” His
mom assured him.
“Are you positive momma?” Justin turned to face his
mom.
“I am Justin, now get the rest of your stuff and let’s
go.” Lynn said taking one last look out at Rebecca’s
house.
**
“Daddy, I’m going to Justin’s.” I yelled as I ran out
of the door.
I ran to Justin’s with a Nintendo game I was dying for
him to try. I ran to the door and went to open it but
it was locked. So I knocked. After at least ten
minutes of sitting there knocking I figured maybe they
went out to eat but I saw the note.
Becca-
I had to move. I will write you.
Justin
I felt the tears weld up in my eyes. He was my best
friend and now he’s gone. I don’t know where he went,
how long he was going to be gone, or why. I just knew
it would be a long time till I saw him again, and it
broke my heart.
