Chapter 16

*********************

"Did you guys have a good time?" Nina asked Joey as they both got into the car. "Ya, it was great. Just us guys, like ole' times." Joey started the engine, and backed out of the drive way."

Vanessa was already asleep in her car seat, making the drive very quiet.

Joey started to giggle. "Justin is so weird."
"Why?" Nina smiled, "what happened?"
"He just thinks that me and you are going together," he giggled some more, trying to keep his eyes on the road.
"Why would he think that?" Nina asked, curiously.
"Who knows? He's Justin." Joey said, changing the station on the radio. Nina turned the radio completely off. "Do you think it would be weird?"
"What?" He asked, he tended to be the "slow" one.
"You know.." Nina stuttered, "if you and I.. you know.. went together."
"Um.. Nah." He said. He didn't think it would be weird at all. He thought it would be nothing but right.
Joey pulled into the drive way of Nina's house, "Is Vanessa with me tonight, or you?"
"Me" She responded, still sitting in the passenger seat, motionless. She really wanted to say 'the both of us,' but Nina wasn't that good at being the open aggressive one in the relationship, it was her flaw.
"Lemme help you then.." He said, getting out of the car, walking to the other side where Vanessa was, gettng her little, sleeping body of of the car seat. Nina took the baby bag and walked to her front door where Joey followed. "Go on and take her upstairs." She whispered to Joey.
Nina got settled and took the baby bag to the laundry room and started taking out dirty baby clothes and putting them in the hamper. She saw Joey with the corner of her eye coming down the stairs towards the laundry room. She let out a deep sigh.
Joey stuck his head in the room, "I'm out. You need anything?"
Nina didn't want Joey to leave, but what could she possibly say to make him stay? "Joey.." she managed to say.
"Yea?" He asked, getting his car keys out of his pocket.
She walked over to him, he was standing near the front door. "Thanks," she said as she leaned in, and kissed him on the cheek, which Joey loved.
"You're welcome," he kissed her back, only this time, it was on the lips. The kiss was so passionate, so deep that Nina felt like she could just melt in his arms. "I should go.." he said, opening the door, letting himself out.
"Alright, I'll see ya later." Nina said, watching him get into his car.
Joey honked the hornin tune of a familiar song as he drove away. Nina giggled and closed the door.

"This is cute!" Tiffany held up a pair of flared demin jeans that faded in the knees. She had a weird, and interesting sense of style.
"Eh.. It's alright." Nina said, putting Vanessa's bottle back into the baby bag.
"What are you saying!? I'm trying this on, will you watch Joshua?"
"Ya, I'll be in this area."
As Tiffany walked to the dressing room, she heard a familiar voice calling her name. She turned around to see who it was, Lance was standing before her. "Oh.. hey Lance. Whatcha doin' inthe women's department?"
"Shopping." He said, holding some shopping bags.
"Do I wanna know why you're shopping for women's clothes?" She said, making a little joke. Tiffany did that sometimes with Lance. She told Lance that for JC's birthday, he should dress up in drag and do a little dance for him.
Lance giggled his signature laugh. "Very funny. I'm shopping for Nina."
"Oh... Nina?" Tiffany said in a suspicious tone. She liked to lead things on.
"Well.., Christmas is just around the corner, so.. you know?"
"Sure.." Tiffany said, again, suspiciously. "Speaking of Nina.."
"Hey Lance." Nina said from behind him.
"Shit.." He whispered under his breath. "Hey Nina."
"Tiff, how did it look?" Nina asked, referring to the jeans.
"Oh.. still gotta try 'em on! Be right back!" She walked to the dressing room, knowing how proud she was to leave Lance and Nina alone.
"How cute!" Lance said, looking at the double stroller. "Joshua just took the lollipop right out of his mouth, and put it in Vanessa's." He giggled.
"They're so adorable." Nina smiled. "How's Jc?"
"He's great. I think he's gonna go back home for his brother's wedding." Lance wasn't going to go. Jc didn't think it would be such a good idea.
"That's cool.." Nina said. "Well, I'mma go meet Tiff in the dressing room. See ya around."
"Bye." he said, watching her walk away. "I love you." he said under his breath.

"You're such a doofus!" Chris commented. "Why did you leave?"
"Chris, I was already on my way out! "Joey said, taking a sip of his beer.
"So?!"
"So, if I stayed, she would know that I stayed to get some."
"Joey.." Chris said, putting his hand on Joey's shoulder. "You're a man. When an opportunity like that comes along, you take it!"
"It's not like that Chris. Not with Nina. I wanna be different with her." Joey took some money out of his wallet, and motioned the bartender for another drink.
"So, she's not just another girl to bang?" Chris asked.
"No! I care for her, a lot." He took a big gulp.
"Is it the big 'L'?" Chris finished his drink as he slammed the glass down on the table.
"I don't think so. At least not yet." Joey's never been in love before. He told me he wants Nina to be the first.
"What are you gonna do?"
"I'm gonna ask her out." Joey sounded very confident about his decision.
"Hey guys!" I spotted them from the other side of the bar, and decided to come over and say 'hey.'
"Waddap Ju." Chris tried acting like thug, which made him sound ridiculious.
"What's goin' on." I said, ordering a drink.
"Joey has the hot's for Nina!" Chris teased.
"Oh ya.. What else is new?"
"He's gonna ask her out!"
"It's about freakin' time!" I gave Joey a high five. I've never seen him more put together, more smooth and laid back then now. For the first time in a long time, Joey was actually happy.
