My initial reaction to Taiwan was less than positive. I had spent 18 hours in transit and then found myself in a gypsy cab racing towards Taipei. The industrial sized smells coming through the open windows promised something other than natural beauty in the light of day. Once off of the four lane and onto the city streets the traffic became congested. Thousands of scooters were not only buzzing about the streets, but also tightly lined up on the sidewalks. Warm humid air fulfilled the promises made by the web based weather sites.

I had known for almost two years that a trip to Taiwan was going to show up in my work schedule. Early this year the time frame was narrowed to March, April or May. A date was set in March to begin work in mid April. A final change found us leaving April 27. The work involved installing seven characters produced by LifeFormations in a dark ride (Cosmic Adventure) in the Astronomical Museum in Taipei. The schedule called for two days of rest before beginning seven days of work. After our arrival the client asked us to start a day early. I was glad that jet lag hadn't robbed me of my free day before beginning work. The time difference was 12 hours and I had used the jet lag diet to try to get my schedule aligned with Taipei's clocks. It seemed to help as I awoke Sunday morning feeling good enough to spend the day exploring a portion of the city. Work would begin Monday morning.
