LEAGUE INFO…

Recap…
Tuesday, August 25th was the sixteenth week of the Duffers 2009 season.  The weather was perfect with 84-degree temperatures, low humidity, and sunny skies.  We had 50 of 55 members (91%) and 9 guests making their way around the back nine.  Former members visiting last night included; Mike Blaner, Tom Thomasson, Steve Morton, Scott White, and Denny Gedeon.  It’s always nice to see former members and a few guests show up to play a round and have a couple beers.  But, it might make one wonder, how happy was the last group last night when they finished in near TOTAL DARKNESS, knowing that the two extra foursomes of guests might have been the cause of their LATE, DARK (8:40) FINISH?   Anyway, Member attendance for the year remains 92%, while total attendance, including guests and make-up rounds is now a PERFECT 100%.

MAKE-UP ROUNDS

MEMBERS WHO MISSED Wk#16 were…

Wayne Cerney

Jim Martin

Ron Pereira

Rob Sibley

Mark Sustarsic

REMEMBER, you have one week to play your make-up round.  You must play the same side that the league was originally scheduled to play.  Turn your scorecards in to a Creekwood Clubhouse Counter Staff Member, asking them to place it in the Duffer File, or give it to Stanny on Tuesday.

With ~55 members + guests and the league ahead of us; the Duffers MUST play READY GOLF!

Daylight continues to slip away from us.
We are now losing more than TEN minutes of daylight each and every week and once again we are struggling to finish before dark.
FYI…  The Sun Sets Next Tuesday (9/01) at 8:01.  Our last group had better be off the tee box by 5:35.

Yesterday’s Pace
of play was much better than last weeks.  I noticed just a few groups that had fallen a bit behind but nothing major.  The main problem last night was very few players are using the READY GOLF techniques discussed in these pages all season!
Finishing in the dark isn’t much fun.  Please allow our “back-of-the-pack players” to finish before sunset by playing ready golf and playing quickly.

Just remember that ‘your proper position on the golf course is behind the group in front of you, NOT in front of the group behind you!’

League Tee Time Moved UP…
Our friendly starters (Jack and Don) have arranged for the NASA league that normally plays ahead of us, to play opposite us these last few weeks of the season.  That means that the tee box is ours for the taking any time after 3:45!
If you can, you are welcome to arrive and play early these last two weeks of the season.

Consolation Bracket…
With only Two weeks of regular season play remaining, I want to remind those of you who are in the ‘Consolation Tournament’ that you can get back into the ‘Championship Tournament’ by winning one of the remaining regular play WEEKLY TOURNAMENTS!  The yearlong POINTS Tournament is winding down and although Skip’s lead has been diminished while the race has tightened up, he is still leading the pack.  Again this year, the “money places” will be decided during these last few weeks with KnockDown #4 undoubtedly determining who will finish “in the money”.  So, I suggest that you make every effort to get to Creekwood and play yourselves either into the money or out of the ‘Consolation Tournament’!  J

Final Outing…

’09 Season Final Tournament & Outing…

Next Tuesday I will begin preparing for The Duffer Outing by asking each player if he will be attending and assigning tee times for any “committed foursomes”.  Many tee times are available on a first-come, first-served basis.  A tee time list is available from the Home Page.

As you should know, the ‘09 Final Outing is being held at Creekwood Country Club, Saturday, September 12th at 9:00.  It’s usually an all day affair.  The only cost to members is $10 for entry into the Skins / Blind Bogey game.  All league members and guests will receive 18-holes of golf (carts included), lunch at the turn, and dinner (BBQ ribs with chicken and all the trimmings) catered by Lone Tree.  A prize ceremony will follow dinner.

As in any Duffer event, GUESTS are welcome to attend.  Again this year, guests are not eligible for any games or prizes (including skins / blind bogey). If you still wish to bring a guest to play in your foursome, the cost is $65.

Extra meals for wives, girl friends, or significant others are available for $20 each.

A league member who is unable to attend ‘The Outing’ may designate a guest “proxy player” to attend at the reduced price of $40.

This ‘proxy player” program was instituted as a courtesy to members who can’t attend ‘The Outing’ thus providing them the ability to give the gift of a dinner, lunch, and beverages, to a friend, while still allowing ‘The League’ to maintain it’s significant prize pool.  “Proxy players” are considered to be guests and as such, are excluded from all money games.

All guest, ‘proxy’, and extra dinner fees must be PAID IN FULL by Tuesday Sept. 8th.  Tee times and extra meals can only be guaranteed to 100% committed members and Paid-in-Full guests.

See Stanny if you have any questions or comments.

09 Match Play Tournament…
The Final round of “The Match Play Tournament” started yesterday and ends (9/08).  Good Luck to our two Finalists, Chip Dubosh and Chris Pizzuli.  Completed match results along with an up-to-date bracket can be observed by checking out the Match Page.  A “hard copy” of the bracket is also posted on the bulletin board outside the clubhouse.

’09 Scheduled Events…
Here are this year’s remaining Duffer events.

Skin News…
Our Skin Committee members are: Chip Dubosh, Skip Skufca, Mark Sustarsic, Mike Milam, and Todd Cramer.

Their duties are to: ENCOURAGE game participation (Skin & 50/50) by our members, guarantee correct sign-in and tabulation, watch and sort the money, ensure there is no ‘after posting’, assist in score keeping, and help with prize money distribution. If you have any ideas or suggestions about how these games could be run more efficiently please see a committee member or Stanny.

MORON’S CORNER… (Formerly JETHRO CIPHERS)
This is the spot where I will highlight (low light) the SPECIAL skills of Duffers and their simplistic mathematic disabilities.

6+6+5+7+6+10+6+5+5
= 56 not 57 – Chuck Bartsche

a friendly REMINDER…

It is each and every member’s personal responsibility to insure that his own score is CORRECTLY and LEGIBLY recorded (both gross and net) on the weekly skin / work sheet.  Even though you may not have been the person keeping score for the foursome, it is your duty to insure that it was done correctly!  Do it right and you won’t end up listed in the “Moron’s Corner”!

LARRY LAHIFF'S SKIN GAMES…
are a great way to   s t r e t c h   the summer holiday weekends and play a round of golf with friends at one of the areas FINEST golf courses.
The remaining date is:

Friday September 4th.

It is also being held at Eagle Creek GC in Norwalk. The first tee time is ~9:30 and everyone is welcome to attend.
See Larry for further details or if you have any questions.
