LEAGUE INFO…
Recap…
Tuesday, August 18th
was the fifteenth week of the Duffers 2009 season. The weather was very pleasant with 84-degree
temperatures and sunny skies. We had 50
of 55 members (91%) and 3 guests joining us to play the front
nine. Member attendance for the year
remains 92%, while total attendance,
including guests and make-up rounds remains an EXCELLENT 99%.

REMEMBER, you have one week to play your make-up round. You must play the same side
that the league was originally scheduled to play. Turn your scorecards in to a Creekwood Clubhouse Counter Staff
Member, asking them to place it in the Duffer File, or give it to Stanny on
Tuesday.
With
~55 members + guests and the league ahead of us; the Duffers MUST
play READY GOLF!
Ready Golf
means BEING READY to play, not playing when you're ready. Here are some simple
hints.
More Ready Golf information can be found by clicking
here.

Let’s try to have our
first group on the tee box by 4:15, right behind the NASA group.
Yesterday’s Pace of play just sucked around the whole front side! The league ahead of us was SLOW and we were
even SLOWER, adding 20 minutes to our first groups pace of play. Finishing in the dark isn’t much fun.
Daylight is slipping away from us.
We are now losing more than TEN minutes of daylight each and every week and
once again we are struggling to finish before dark.
FYI… The Sun Sets Next
Tuesday (8/25)
at 8:12. Our last group had better be
off the tee box by 5:40.
Please allow our “back-of-the-pack players” to finish before sunset by
playing ready golf and playing quickly.
Just remember that ‘your proper position on the golf course is behind
the group in front of you, NOT
in front of the group behind you!’
’09
Match Play Tournament…
The
Semi-Final round of “The Match Play Tournament” ended yesterday with both
matches being played. The Final Round
starts next week (8/25) and ends (9/08).
Good
Luck to our two Finalists, Chip Dubosh and Chris Pizzuli. Completed match results along with an
up-to-date bracket can be observed by checking out the Match Page. A “hard copy” of the bracket is also
posted on the bulletin board outside the clubhouse.
Consolation
Bracket…
With only Three weeks of regular season play remaining, I want to remind
those of you who are in the ‘Consolation Tournament’ that you can get back into
the ‘Championship Tournament’ by winning one of the remaining WEEKLY
regular play TOURNAMENTS! The POINTS
tournament is winding down and although Skip Skufca seemed to be running
away with the title, he has stumbled a bit and the race is tightening up. I should remind you that there is still one
KnockDown Tournament remaining and we pay off three places in the Points
Tournament. So please make every effort
to get to Creekwood and play yourselves either into the money or out of the
‘Consolation Tournament’!
’09 Scheduled Events…
Here are the
tentative dates (weather permitting) for this year’s remaining Duffer
events.
KnockDowns…
Sept. 8th (back 9).
Final
Outing…
’09 Season Final Tournament & Outing…
Soon, I will start preparing for The Duffer Outing. It’s time to start thinking about your
groupings and tee times.
Most tee times will be available to ‘committed FOURSOMES’ on a
first-come, first-served basis. A tee
time list is available from the Home Page.
As you should know, the ‘09 Final Outing is being held at Creekwood
Country Club, Saturday, September 12th at 9:00. It’s usually an all day affair. The only cost to members is $10 for entry
into the Skins / Blind Bogey game. All
league members and guests will receive 18-holes of golf (carts
included), lunch at the turn, and dinner (BBQ ribs with chicken and all the trimmings)
catered by Lone Tree. A prize ceremony
will follow dinner.
As in any Duffer event, GUESTS are welcome to attend. Again this year, guests are not eligible
for any games or prizes (including skins / blind bogey). If you still wish
to bring a guest to play in your foursome, the cost is $65.
Extra meals for wives, girl friends, or significant others are
available for $20 each.
A league member who is unable to attend ‘The Outing’ may designate a guest
“proxy player” to attend at the reduced price of $40.
This ‘proxy player” program was instituted as a courtesy to members who can’t attend ‘The Outing’ thus providing them the ability to give the gift of a dinner, lunch, and beverages, to a friend, while still allowing ‘The League’ to maintain it’s significant prize pool. “Proxy players” are considered to be guests and as such, are excluded from all money games.
All guest, ‘proxy’,
and extra dinner fees must be PAID IN FULL by Tuesday Sept. 8th. Tee times and extra meals can only
be guaranteed to 100% committed members and Paid-in-Full guests.
See Stanny if you have any questions or comments.
Skin News…
Our Skin Committee members are: Chip Dubosh, Skip Skufca,
Mark Sustarsic, Mike Milam, and Todd Cramer.
Their
duties are to: ENCOURAGE game participation (Skin & 50/50) by
our members, guarantee correct sign-in and tabulation, watch and sort
the money, ensure there is no ‘after posting’, assist in score
keeping, and help with prize money distribution. If you have any ideas or suggestions about
how these games could be run more efficiently please see a committee member
or Stanny.

MORON’S CORNER…
(Formerly
JETHRO CIPHERS)
This is the spot where
I will highlight (low light) the SPECIAL skills of Duffers and
their simplistic mathematic disabilities.
6+5+4+3+5+5+3+4+5 = 40 not 41 – Skip Skufca
a friendly REMINDER…
It is each and every member’s personal responsibility to
insure that his own score is CORRECTLY and LEGIBLY recorded (both
gross and net) on the weekly skin / work sheet. Even though you may not have been the person
keeping score for the foursome, it is your duty to insure that it was done
correctly! Do it right and you won’t
end up listed in the “Moron’s Corner”!
LARRY
LAHIFF'S SKIN GAMES…
are a great
way to s t r e t c h the summer holiday weekends and play a
round of golf with friends at one of the areas FINEST golf courses.
The remaining date is:
Friday September 4th.
It is also being held
at Eagle Creek GC in Norwalk. The first tee time is ~9:30 and everyone is
welcome to attend.
See Larry for further details or if you have any questions.
