LEAGUE INFO…
Recap…
Tuesday, August 11th
was the fourteenth week and last FunNite of the Duffers 2009 season. The weather was very pleasant with 84-degree
temperatures and sunny skies. FunNites
are usually very popular evenings with attendance greater than that of normal
weeks. Unfortunately, that was not the
case last night; we had only 47 of 55 members (85%) and 5 guests
joining us to play the back nine. Since
last night’s format was basically that of a ‘Regular Weekly Tournament’, missed
rounds should be made up and will be counted against your attendance record and
your Final Tournament eligibility. Once again we had a few former members
make an appearance as guests last night. They were, Patrick Keaton and Scott
White. It’s always nice to see past
friends and members show up to play and/or have a beer. Member attendance
for the year remains 92%, while total attendance,
including guests and make-up rounds remains an EXCELLENT 99%.
Lisa Taylor…
did undergo
successful surgery last week and is recovering at home.
Zach
Young…
You may
have noticed the new face of a young man behind the counter, in the
clubhouse. Zack Young has been hired as
Assistant Manager to replace Lisa. I
believe Zach has previous golf course management experience at Hilltop Golf
Course and other family endeavors. Please bear with him as he becomes
acquainted with the “Duffer Ways” and introduce yourselves when you see
him.

REMEMBER, you have one week to play your make-up round. You must play the same side
that the league was originally scheduled to play. Turn your scorecards in to a Creekwood Clubhouse Counter Staff
Member, asking them to place it in the Duffer File, or give it to Stanny on
Tuesday.
Since
last night’s format was basically that of a ‘Regular Weekly Tournament’, missed
rounds should be made up and will be counted against your attendance record and
your Final Tournament eligibility.
With
~55 members + guests and the league ahead of us; the Duffers MUST
play READY GOLF!
Ready Golf
means BEING READY to play, not playing when you're ready. Here are some simple
hints.
More Ready Golf information can be found by clicking

Let’s try to have our
first group on the tee box by 4:15, right behind the NASA group.
Yesterday’s Pace of play was excellent at the front of the pack, especially so considering they
were playing a five-some. Again, the
play at the rear slowed down considerably!
Daylight is starting to slip away from us.
We are now losing more than TEN minutes of daylight each week and once again we
will be struggling to finish before dark.
FYI… The Sun Sets Next Tuesday
(8/18) at 8:23. Our last group
had better be off the tee box by 5:50.
Please allow our “back-of-the-pack players” to finish before sunset by
playing ready golf and playing quickly.
Just remember that ‘your proper position on the golf course is behind
the group in front of you, NOT
in front of the group behind you!’
Help Needed…
Paul Chichester has a friend whose son has been fighting leukemia for
the past year. Last year, to help out
with medical costs, Paul and his friends put together a FUNDRAISING GOLF
OUTING that was held at Sweetbriar G.C. in Avon Lake. This year, the family hopes to “Pay it
forward” by helping out other sick kids.
or speak with Paul Chichester for more information. Hopefully, “The Duffers” will be able to get a few foursomes
together to help out.
’09 Match
Play Tournament…
The
Semi-Final round of “The Match Play Tournament” starts next Tuesday (8/18) and
ends, in just two weeks, on Tuesday evening (8/25). Completed
match results along with an up-to-date bracket can be observed by checking out
the Match Page. A “hard copy” of the bracket is also
posted on the bulletin board outside the clubhouse.
’09 Scheduled Events…
Here are the
tentative dates (weather permitting) for this year’s remaining Duffer
events.
FunNite
#3 GREEN Ball Tournament…
was not very popular with the membership last night. The total number of players was rather
disappointing with only 28 members (7 teams) joining in on the fun. It seems to me that the 4-man team
experiment was a failure and will probably not be attempted again. I believe it failed because, as a 4-man
team, guests were prevented from playing along with their member hosts. Even though I understand the golf course
management’s distrust of too many 3-sums, causing the need for EXTRA tee times
and resulting in the course backing up, the 3-man teams do allow for guests and
friends to form up into four-sums and still get around the course in a normal
fashion.
Anyway, results are available from the Duffer home page.
Unfortunately, we could not come up with an equitable way of allowing for
the one three-man Green Ball team that played last night. They will be issued a $5 refund next week.
Many thanks to Mickey
Lima and his committee: Pat Lima, and Mark Clark for their efforts
putting on FunNite #3.
Plus a special
thanks goes out to Dale Sandvick for donating last night’s
beverages as a token of his appreciation for your consistent patronage in these
current economic conditions.
Final
Outing…
The Final
Outing is being held Saturday, Sept. 12th, 9:00, at Creekwood
Golf Course. Mark your
calendars now!
FYI,
we will be enjoying BBQ ribs with chicken and all the trimmings, catered by
Lone Tree Tavern.
Skin News…
Our Skin Committee members are: Chip Dubosh, Skip Skufca,
Mark Sustarsic, Mike Milam, and Todd Cramer.
Their
duties are to: ENCOURAGE game participation (Skin & 50/50) by
our members, guarantee correct sign-in and tabulation, watch and sort
the money, ensure there is no ‘after posting’, assist in score
keeping, and help with prize money distribution. If you have any ideas or suggestions about
how these games could be run more efficiently please see a committee member
or Stanny.

MORON’S CORNER…
(Formerly
JETHRO CIPHERS)
This is the spot where
I will highlight (low light) the SPECIAL skills of Duffers and
their simplistic mathematic disabilities.
5+5+3+5+5+7+6+4+5 = 45 not 46 – Ted Dieterich
a friendly REMINDER…
It is each and every member’s personal responsibility to
insure that his own score is CORRECTLY and LEGIBLY recorded (both
gross and net) on the weekly skin / work sheet. Even though you may not have been the person
keeping score for the foursome, it is your duty to insure that it was done
correctly! Do it right and you won’t
end up listed in the “Moron’s Corner”!
LARRY
LAHIFF'S SKIN GAMES…
are a great way
to s t r e t c h the summer holiday weekends and play a
round of golf with friends at one of the areas FINEST golf courses.
The remaining date is:
Friday September 4th.
It is also being held
at Eagle Creek GC in Norwalk. The first tee time is ~9:30 and everyone is
welcome to attend.
See Larry for further details or if you have any questions.
