LEAGUE INFO…

Recap…
Tuesday, June 30th was the ninth official week of the DUFFERS 2009 season, KnockDown #2, and the second week of round number two of the Match Play Tournament.  The weather was more fall like than that of summer time in Cleveland.  Cool 65-degree temperatures and light showery cloudy skies made for comfortable yet odd conditions.  Creekwood G.C. remains in excellent condition and is a pleasure to play!  Last nights cool damp weather probably was the reason for the lighter than average turnout.  We only had 47 of 56 members (84%) and 2 guests make their way around the back nine.
Member attendance for the year has ticked down to
92%, while total attendance, including guests and make-up rounds has slipped to 97%.

REMEMBER, you have one week to play your make-up round.  You must play the same side that the league was originally scheduled to play.
Turn your scorecards in to a Creekwood Clubhouse Counter Staff Member, asking them to place it in the Duffer File, or give it to Stanny on Tuesday.
Maintain your Final Tournament Eligibility by having no more than two absences during the season!

With ~55 members + guests and the NASA league ahead of us; the Duffers MUST play READY GOLF!

Ready Golf means BEING READY to play, not playing when you're ready. Here are some simple hints.

More Ready Golf information can be found by clicking here.

Let’s try to have our first group on the tee box by 4:15, right behind the NASA group.

Yesterday’s Pace of play was EXCELLENT at the front of the pack.  In fact, 1:52 is the fastest a Duffer four-some has gotten a round in all year!  Congratulations go out to: Ton & Norm Dickson, Don Griffith, and Larry Lahiff.  THE BACK OF THE PACK continues to be a problem!   Fred and Mickey Lima, Jack Tabor and Mark Clark fell more than a hole and a half behind the group ahead of theirs by the 8th hole.  BAD GOLF IS NO EXCUSE FOR SLOW PLAY!

Just remember that ‘your proper position on the golf course is behind the group in front of you, NOT in front of the group behind you!’

Help Needed…
Paul Chichester has a friend whose son has been fighting leukemia for the past year.  Last year, to help out with medical costs, Paul and his friends put together a FUNDRAISING GOLF OUTING that was held at Sweetbriar G.C. in Avon Lake.  This year, the family hopes to “Pay it forward” by helping out other sick kids.  Click here, or speak with Paul Chichester for more information.  Hopefully, “The Duffers” will be able to get a few foursomes together to help out.

09 Match Play Tournament…
Round two of “The Match Play Tournament” continued last night with just two matches being played.  Since next week is a FunNite with a special format, no matches can be played.  That leaves just ONE more evening left to play in Round number two, which ends (7/14).  Completed match results along with an up-to-date bracket can be observed by checking out the Match Page.  A “hard copy” is also posted on the bulletin board outside the clubhouse.

’09 Scheduled Events…
Here are the tentative dates (weather permitting) for this year’s remaining Duffer events.

If you have any ideas about games or menu items, that you feel might be interesting, please see a committee member.

FunNite #2
As noted above, FunNite #2 is being held next Tuesday (7/07).  Paul Ebright and his committee will be providing: pizza, chicken wings, and homemade chili.  Beverages will include assorted canned beers, pops, Gatorades, and water.  The FUN portion of the evening will be our typical “THREE CLUB TOURNAMENT” As the name implies, each player, who wishes to participate, will only be allowed a TOTAL of THREE clubs (yes including putter) in his golf bag.  Entry will be $10. FIVE dollars of which will go towards the usual Skin Game.  The additional $5 will go toward other FunNite games such as, but not limited to, low/high putts, low/high gross, longest putt holed, a few proximity shots, plus others.  Skip Skufca will provide a complete rules and prize list at the 1st tee. In addition to the $10 Extreme Skins Game, the 50/50 game will be run as usual making your total FunNite entry fee to be $11 (American).

Guests are welcome to attend FunNite for the customary fee of $6.  All guests will be charged the $6 visitor fee regardless if they choose to eat/drink or not.  As usual, guests are not eligible for the Skins but will automatically be entered into the 50/50 game.

Since this FunNite is a non-standard, odd format, make-up rounds cannot be accepted and a missed round will not be counted against your attendance record.

KnockDowns…
August 4th (front 9), and Sept. 8th (back 9).

KnockDown #2 results are available on the web sites home page.

Final Outing…
The Final Outing is being held Saturday, Sept. 12th, 9:00, at Creekwood Golf Course.  Mark your calendars now!

FYI, we will be enjoying a rib roast with chicken and all the trimmings, catered by Lone Tree Tavern.

Skin News…
Our Skin Committee members are: Chip Dubosh, Skip Skufca, Mark Sustarsic, Mike Milam, and Todd Cramer.

Their duties are to: ENCOURAGE game participation (Skin & 50/50) by our members, guarantee correct sign-in and tabulation, watch and sort the money, ensure there is no ‘after posting’, assist in score keeping, and help with prize money distribution. If you have any ideas or suggestions about how these games could be run more efficiently please see a committee member or Stanny.

Remember, you can’t win if you don’t play!

MORON’S CORNER… (Formerly JETHRO CIPHERS)
This is the spot where I will highlight (low light) the SPECIAL skills of Duffers and their simplistic mathematic disabilities.

8+5+4+9+6+8+9+7+8 = 64 not 66 – Mark Clark

a friendly REMINDER…
It is each and every member’s personal responsibility to insure that his own score is CORRECTLY and LEGIBLY recorded (both gross and net) on the weekly skin / work sheet.  Even though you may not have been the person keeping score for the foursome, it is your duty to insure that it was done correctly!  Do it right and you won’t end up listed in the “Moron’s Corner”!

LARRY LAHIFF'S SKIN GAMES…
are a great way to   s t r e t c h   the summer holiday weekends and play a round of golf with friends at one of the areas FINEST golf courses.
This years remaining dates are:

Friday July 3rd, and Friday September 4th.

All three events will be held at Eagle Creek GC in Norwalk. The first tee time is ~9:30 and everyone is welcome to attend.
See Larry for further details or if you have any questions.
