LEAGUE INFO…

Recap…
Tuesday, June 16th was the seventh official week of the DUFFERS 2009 season; it was also the end of the first round of the Match Play Tournament.  The weather was once again PERFECT with 80-degree temperatures and sunny, calm skies.  We had 50 of 56 members (89%) and 3 guests (former members Steve Morton and Scott White) tee it up to enjoy the terrific conditions.   What did everyone think of the greens, awfully hard and fast weren’t they?
Member attendance for the year has dropped to
92%, while total attendance, including guests and make-up rounds has also ticked down to a very good 98%.

MAKE-UP ROUNDS
reported for last week…

Tom Dickson

MEMBERS WHO MISSED Wk#07 were…

Chuck Bartsche

Bob Gawronski

Mike Kennedy

Bob King

John Parker

Ron Pereira

REMEMBER, you have one week to play your make-up round.  You must play the same side that the league was originally scheduled to play.
Turn your scorecards in to a Creekwood Clubhouse Counter Staff Member, asking them to place it in the Duffer File, or give it to Stanny on Tuesday.
Maintain your Final Tournament Eligibility by having no more than two absences during the season!

With ~55 members + guests and the NASA league ahead of us; the Duffers MUST play READY GOLF!

Ready Golf means BEING READY to play, not playing when you're ready. Here are some simple hints.

More Ready Golf information can be found by clicking here.

Let’s try to have our first group on the tee box by 4:15, right behind the NASA group.

Yesterday’s Pace of play was just OK at the front BUT WHAT HAPPENED AT THE BACK OF THE PACK???  Two hours and forty-nine minutes is a terrible time for nine-holes!  What’s going on back there??

Just remember that ‘your proper position on the golf course is behind the group in front of you, NOT in front of the group behind you!’

09 Match Play Tournament…
Round one of “The Match Play Tournament” ended last night with the last two matches being played.  Round two starts next Tuesday (6/23) and ends (7/14).  Completed match results along with an up-to-date bracket can be observed by checking out the Match Page.  A “hard copy” is also posted on the bulletin board outside the clubhouse.

’09 Scheduled Events…
Here are the tentative dates (weather permitting) for this year’s Duffer Events.  Due to our late start this spring; some dates were changed.

If you have any ideas about games or menu items, that you feel might be interesting, please see a committee member.

KnockDowns…
June 30th (back 9), August 4th (front 9), and Sept. 8th (back 9).

Final Outing…
The Final Outing is being held Saturday, Sept. 12th, 9:00, at Creekwood Golf Course.  Mark your calendars now!

FYI, we will be enjoying a rib roast with chicken and all the trimmings, catered by Lone Tree Tavern.

Skin News…
Our Skin Committee members are: Chip Dubosh, Skip Skufca, Mark Sustarsic, Mike Milam, and Todd Cramer.

Their duties are to: ENCOURAGE game participation (Skin & 50/50) by our members, guarantee correct sign-in and tabulation, watch and sort the money, ensure there is no ‘after posting’, assist in score keeping, and help with prize money distribution. If you have any ideas or suggestions about how these games could be run more efficiently please see a committee member or Stanny.

Remember, you can’t win if you don’t play!

SKIN RESULTS for Wk#07…
we had 45 out of 50 members (90%) in the game for a pot of  $220
those not playing were…

Jim Martin

Don Schofield Sr.

(the usuals)

Wayne Cerney

Alex Martinez

Charlie Wright

Lets continue exerting some peer pressure and see if we can keep some of these non-players in The Skins!

Tuesdays Winners were…

Low Net (32) – Pete Cloherty – $44
Pin #12 – Frank Bago – $44
Pin #17 – Paul Chichester – $44

Three Skins were out @ $29 each…
#10 – birdie – Fred Lima
#12 – birdie – Pete Cloherty
#14 – birdie – Eric Sfiligoj
#18 – birdie – Charlie Wright – could have won $22 if he would have been in the game…   LOL

How about some involvement from other Skin Committee Members (Chip Dubosh, Mark Sustarsic, Mike Milam, and Todd Cramer)!
I wouldn’t be surprised if Skip may be getting a bit annoyed at the lack of participation of his fellow committee members.

NOTE… PLEASE DON’T PREMATURELY CIRCLE YOUR BIRDIES ON THE SKIN SHEET!
It’s a pretty television graphic presentation BUT it makes it VERY DIFFICULT to see the TRUE SKINS!

50/50 Game…
we had 50 in the game for a pot of  $49??
Those not playing were???

Wayne Cerney

Alex Martinez

Rob Sibley

Charlie Wright

The winning number, drawn by Mark Hodgson, was #2
Frank Bago –  $24 – second time 50/50 winner

Tradition dictates that the winners buy the drinks, or be heckled miserably!

MORON’S CORNER… (Formerly JETHRO CIPHERS)
This is the spot where I will highlight (low light) the SPECIAL skills of Duffers and their simplistic mathematic disabilities.

6+5+5+6+6+8+7+4+6 = 53 not 55 – Dick Ade

Other MORONS worth mentioning were…
Mark Clark for leaving his money clip lying on the Skin sheet, and then not figuring it might have been placed in the Skin Box.
Pat Lima for leaving his golf clubs at the course, and then having them delivered to him at the bar.
Stanny, for leaving his league file folder behind the Creekwood counter.
The Duffers Golf League for playing 9-holes in TWO HOURS and FORTY NINE MINUTES!

a friendly REMINDER…

It is each and every member’s personal responsibility to insure that his own score is CORRECTLY recorded (both gross and net) on the weekly skin / work sheet.  Even though you may not have been the person keeping score for the foursome, it is your duty to insure that it was done correctly!  Do it right and you won’t end up listed in the “Moron’s Corner”!

LARRY LAHIFF'S SKIN GAMES…
are a great way to   s t r e t c h   the summer holiday weekends and play a round of golf with friends at one of the areas FINEST golf courses.
This years remaining dates are:

Friday July 3rd, and Friday September 4th.

All three events will be held at Eagle Creek GC in Norwalk. The first tee time is ~9:30 and everyone is welcome to attend.
See Larry for further details or if you have any questions.

CREEKWOOD DAY…
Our friends at Creekwood G.C. are celebrating their 49th anniversary, Saturday June 27th.  It’s a great way to observe summers arrival and party with a few of your Creekwood friends.  For only  $75 (cash or check) you get golf (18 holes, individual stroke play), ½ cart, lunch, dinner, beer, and PRIZES!  The menu, which is catered by Lone Tree Tavern (Alexander’s), consists of a PIG ROAST, Bar-B-Q Chicken, sausage & kraut, rigatoni, salad, and all the trimmings.  Deadline for payment is Tuesday June 23rd. See Lisa, in the clubhouse, to sign-up or if you have any questions.

'Till Tuesday,

John (Stanny) Stanbrook
