LEAGUE INFO…

Recap…
Tuesday, June 2nd was the fifth official week and first FunNite of the DUFFERS 2009 season.  The weather was partly cloudy with some sun and blue skies toward the end of the round.  FunNite attendance is usually heavy and last night was no exception with 52 of 56 members (93%) and 3 guests showing up to enjoy the festivities.  ONE match was played last night leaving only TWO weeks reaming in round one!
Member attendance for the year has ticked up to
93%, while total attendance, including guests and make-up rounds remains a very good 99%.

MAKE-UP ROUNDS
reported for last week…

Tom Dickson

Fred Lima

MEMBERS WHO MISSED Wk#05 were…

Wayne Cerney

Glenn McLaughlin

John Parker

Ron Pereira

REMEMBER, you have one week to play your make-up round.  You must play the same side that the league was originally scheduled to play.
Turn your scorecards in to a Creekwood Clubhouse Counter Staff Member, asking them to place it in the Duffer File, or give it to Stanny on Tuesday.
Maintain your Final Tournament Eligibility by having no more than two absences during the season!

Handicaps…
Now that handicaps have been adjusted, they will be updated weekly for the remainder of the season.  The only remaining major up-date will be mid-season when the first third of the scores might be dropped.

With ~55 members + guests and the NASA league ahead of us; the Duffers MUST play READY GOLF!

Ready Golf means BEING READY to play, not playing when you're ready. Here are some simple hints.

More Ready Golf information can be found by clicking here.

Let’s try to have our first group on the tee box by 4:15, right behind the NASA group.

Yesterday’s Pace of play was OK at the front of the pack but the back-of-the-pack was way SLOWER last week!!  COME ON YOU GUYS at the back-o-the-pack, lets try HARDER to keep up with the group ahead of you!

Just remember that ‘your proper position on the golf course is behind the group in front of you, NOT in front of the group behind you!’

No Gimmies
ALL PUTTS MUST BE HOLED OUT AT ALL DUFFER EVENTS.
Any member who accepts a GIMMIE is potentially taking points away from other members and is deemed to be cheating.
Chip Dubosh will be glad to discuss this issue with anyone who doesn’t quite understand the rule.

FunNite #1.
Special thanks go out to Chris Pizzuli and his FunNite #1 committee, Glenn McLaughlin, Charlie Wright, and Dale Sandvick for putting together another successful and tasty affair.   J       Please take a moment and thank them personally and/or buy them a beer, next time you see them.

Best Ball Tournament
Last night we had 51 players in the blind pick “Best Ball Tournament”.  With 51 players, I constructed 17, 3-man teams.  Those teams were assembled by simply sorting (low to high) the numbers the players drew when entering.

The Best Ball results (places and winnings) can be observed from link in your e-mail or from the HOME page.
Besides the cash prizes listed, Gerry Pizzuli won $15 for high putts (22).

BONUS points were awarded to everyone according to the following schedule:

Attend FunNite #1 - 5 points
Participate in Best Ball Tournament - 5 points
Fifth place team members - 5 points
Forth place team members - 10 points
Third place team members - 15 points
Second place team members - 20 points
First place team members - 25 points

KnockDowns…
June 30th (back 9), August 4th (front 9), and Sept. 8th (back 9).

Final Outing…
The Final Outing is being held Saturday, Sept. 12th, 9:00, at Creekwood Golf Course.  Mark your calendars now!

FYI, we will be enjoying a rib roast with chicken and all the trimmings, catered by Lone Tree Tavern.

Skin News…
Our Skin Committee members are: Chip Dubosh, Skip Skufca, Mark Sustarsic, Mike Milam, and Todd Cramer.

Their duties are to: ENCOURAGE game participation (Skin & 50/50) by our members, guarantee correct sign-in and tabulation, watch and sort the money, ensure there is no ‘after posting’, assist in score keeping, and help with prize money distribution.

Your participation in these extracurricular games is voluntary yet robustly encouraged!  Please join the majority of your fellow Duffers in the enjoyment and competition of these games.  It will add to your Duffer experience and it might put a few extra dollars in your pocket.
Remember, you can’t win if you don’t play!
If you have any ideas or suggestions about how these games could be run more efficiently please see a committee member or Stanny.

SKIN RESULTS for Wk#05…
we had 50 out of 52 members (96%) in the game for a pot of  $250
those not playing were…

Chuck Bartsche

Jim Martin

(the usuals)

Lets continue exerting some peer pressure and see if we can keep some of these non-players in The Skins!

Tuesdays Winners were…

Low Net (27) – Paul Chichester – $50
Pin #12 – Eric Sfiligoj – $50 – new members first time in the game.  Peer pressure seems to be working!
Pin #17 – Scott Pennell – $50 – another ‘B’ player cashes in!

FOUR Skins were out @ $25 each…
#13 – birdie – Mark Roth
#14 – birdie – Fred Lima
#16 – birdie – Bill Hathaway
#17 – birdie – Dave Haeberlie

NOTE… PLEASE DON’T PREMATURELY CIRCLE YOUR BIRDIES ON THE SKIN SHEET!
It’s a pretty television graphic presentation BUT it makes it VERY DIFFICULT to see the TRUE SKINS!

50/50 Game…
we had 58 in the game for a pot of  $58
the only one not playing was???

Jim Martin

The winning number, drawn by Mark Roth, was #51
John (Stanny) Stanbrook - $29

Tradition dictates that the winners buy the drinks, or be heckled miserably!

MORON’S CORNER… (Formerly JETHRO CIPHERS)
This is the spot where I will highlight (low light) the SPECIAL skills of Duffers and their simplistic mathematic disabilities.

empty   GOOD JOB!!!

a friendly REMINDER…

It is each and every member’s personal responsibility to insure that his own score is CORRECTLY recorded (both gross and net) on the weekly skin / work sheet.  Even though you may not have been the person keeping score for the foursome, it is your duty to insure that it was done correctly!  Do it right and you won’t end up listed in the “Moron’s Corner”!

LARRY LAHIFF'S SKIN GAMES…
are a great way to   s t r e t c h   the summer holiday weekends and play a round of golf with friends at one of the areas FINEST golf courses.
This years remaining dates are:

Friday July 3rd, and Friday September 4th.

All three events will be held at Eagle Creek GC in Norwalk. The first tee time is ~9:30 and everyone is welcome to attend.
See Larry for further details or if you have any questions.

CREEKWOOD DAY…
Our friends at Creekwood G.C. are celebrating their 49th anniversary, Saturday June 27th.  It’s a great way to observe summers arrival and party with a few of your Creekwood friends.  For only  $75 (cash or check) you get golf (18 holes, individual stroke play), ˝ cart, lunch, dinner, beer, and PRIZES!  The menu, which is catered by Lone Tree Tavern (Alexander’s), consists of a PIG ROAST, Bar-B-Q Chicken, sausage & kraut, rigatoni, salad, and all the trimmings.  Deadline for payment is Tuesday June 23rd. See Lisa, in the clubhouse, to sign-up or if you have any questions.

'Till Tuesday,

John (Stanny) Stanbrook
