LEAGUE INFO…

Recap…
Tuesday, May 26th was the fourth official week of the DUFFERS 2009 season.  The weather was cloudy with some rain but playable just the same.  Last nights KnockDown bonus Tournament bought out a hearty attendance with 50 of 56 members (89%) and 0 guests showing up to play the front-nine. The Match Play Tournament finally got under way with four matches being played.  FunNite #1 is being held, weather permitting, next Tuesday, see details below.
Member attendance for the year remains
92%, while total attendance, including guests and make-up rounds has dropped to 99%.

MAKE-UP ROUNDS
reported for last week…

Todd Cramer

Gerry Pizzuli

MEMBERS WHO MISSED Wk#04 were…

Wayne Cerney

Tom Dickson

Paul Ebright

Fred Lima

Ron Pereira

Eric Sfiligoj

REMEMBER, you have one week to play your make-up round.  You must play the same side that the league was originally scheduled to play.
Turn your scorecards in to a Creekwood Clubhouse Counter Staff Member, asking them to place it in the Duffer File, or give it to Stanny on Tuesday.
Maintain your Final Tournament Eligibility by having no more than two absences during the season!

Handicaps…
Now that handicaps have been adjusted, they will be updated weekly for the remainder of the season.  The only remaining major up-date will be mid-season when the first third of the scores might be dropped.

With ~55 members + guests and the NASA league ahead of us; the Duffers MUST play READY GOLF!

Ready Golf means BEING READY to play, not playing when you're ready. Here are some simple hints.

More Ready Golf information can be found by clicking here.

Let’s try to have our first group on the tee box by 4:15, right behind the NASA group.

Yesterday’s Pace of play was very good at the front of the pack and the back-of-the-pack was quicker than last week but there is still room for improvement back there!  Lets try and keep up with the group ahead of you regardless of how interesting or boring the story being told might be!

Just remember that ‘your proper position on the golf course is behind the group in front of you, NOT in front of the group behind you!’

No Gimmies
ALL PUTTS MUST BE HOLED OUT AT ALL DUFFER EVENTS.
Any member who accepts a GIMMIE is potentially taking points away from other members and is deemed to be cheating.
Chip Dubosh will be glad to discuss this issue with anyone who doesn’t quite understand the rule.

09 Match Play Tournament…

Since next Tuesday’s FunNite play is basically regular ‘League play format’ (see FunNite below) it can be used for Match Play, essentially adding one week’s play to round one.  Contact your Match Play opponent soon to make arrangements to get your MATCH played by June 12th.  Missed rounds next week will be held against your attendance record, and make-up rounds will be accepted.

Here are the tentative dates (weather permitting) for this year’s Duffer Events.  Due to our late start this spring; some dates were changed.

If you have any ideas about games or menu items, that you feel might be interesting, please see a committee member.

FYI…  Next Tuesday (6/02) is FunNite #1.
Dinner and beverages will be provided, free-of-charge, to this years members.  The menu will consist of traditional picnic fare (burgers & maybe dogs), salads (potato and macaroni), condiments and chips.  Beverages (served after golf) will include a variety of canned beers and pop.  The FUN portion of the evening will be a Blind Pick, Best Ball Tournament.  Games of chance will include the regular Skins Game ($5), the 50/50 Game ($1), plus the FunNite Best Ball game for an additional ($5).  Making your total FUN costs a mere  $11!  Guests are welcome to attend FunNite for a fee of $6.  All guests will be charged the $6 visitor fee regardless if they choose to eat/drink or not.  As usual, guests are not eligible for the Skins or Best Ball but will automatically be entered into the 50/50 game.

Since next Tuesday’s FunNite play is basically regular ‘League play format’ missed rounds will be held against your attendance record, and make-up rounds will be accepted.

KnockDowns…
June 30th (back 9), August 4th (front 9), and Sept. 8th (back 9).

Yesterday’s KnockDown results have been tabulated and can be viewed from the Home page.

Final Outing…
The Final Outing is being held Saturday, Sept. 12th, 9:00, at Creekwood Golf Course.  Mark your calendars now!

FYI, we will be enjoying a rib roast with chicken and all the trimmings, catered by Lone Tree Tavern.

Skin News…
Our Skin Committee members are: Chip Dubosh, Skip Skufca, Mark Sustarsic, Mike Milam, and Todd Cramer.

Their duties are to: ENCOURAGE game participation (Skin & 50/50) by our members, guarantee correct sign-in and tabulation, watch and sort the money, ensure there is no ‘after posting’, assist in score keeping, and help with prize money distribution.

50/50 raffle…
This new venture was instituted in an attempt to increase the Duffer Prize Pool without raising our Duffer Dues.  As the name suggests, 50% of the prize pool will go to the winning Duffer member each week and 50% will go to the general fund.  Entry into this game is as easy as the Skin Game, just place $1 in Skin Box and ‘X’ off the number next to your name in the 50/50 column.  Skip Skufca will draw the winning number each Tuesday after the completion of his round.  Like the Skin Game, winners who leave Creekwood early and are not present to collect their winnings will have their names highlighted in yellow on the Skin/Work Sheet and their winnings will be placed in the Skin box for pick-up the next Tuesday.

Reminder to all Skin and/or 50/50 Players…
The Skin Game is open to all dues paid MEMBERS (no guests), The 50/50 is open to everyone.  Game entry (payment and entry indication) must be made prior to teeing off.  Posting and/or paying after your round is completed, is not permitted.  Please take extra care to mark out the games you are playing correctly.  It appears that some players are not marking their entry in both games even though they may have placed their $6 in the Skin Box.  Remember, if you are not “X”ed out when you leave the tee box, you’re not in the game.

Your participation in these extracurricular games is voluntary yet robustly encouraged!  Please join the majority of your fellow Duffers in the enjoyment and competition of these games.  It will add to your Duffer experience and it might put a few extra dollars in your pocket.
Remember, you can’t win if you don’t play!
If you have any ideas or suggestions about how these games could be run more efficiently please see a committee member or Stanny.

SKIN RESULTS for Wk#04…
we had 46 out of 50 members (92%) in the game for a pot of  $225
those not playing were…

Chuck Bartsche

Jim Martin

Don Schofield Sr.

(the usuals)

Gerry Pizzuli

Lets continue exerting some peer pressure and see if we can get some of these non-players into The Skins!

Tuesdays Skin Game Winners were…

Low Net (32) – Chip Dubosh – $45
Pin #4 – Dick Ade – $45
Pin #7 – Ted Dieterich – $45 – a non-regular skin player hits a jackpot shot!!

TWO Skins were out @ $45 each…
#2 – birdie – Mike Kennedy
#7 – birdie – Donny Griffith – a triumphant return to the Skin Game after an almost 2 year absence…  Brilliant!!!

NOTE… PLEASE DON’T PREMATURELY CIRCLE YOUR BIRDIES ON THE SKIN SHEET!
It’s a pretty television graphic presentation BUT it makes it VERY DIFFICULT to see the TRUE SKINS!

50/50 Game…
we had 49 in the game for a pot of  $49
those not playing were…

Mark Hodgson

Jim Martin

Rob Sibley

The winning number, drawn by Glenn McLaughlin, was #55
Pete White - $25 – a second time 50/50 winner

Tradition dictates that the winners buy the drinks, or be heckled miserably!

MORON’S CORNER… (Formerly JETHRO CIPHERS)
This is the spot where I will highlight (low light) the SPECIAL skills of Duffers and their simplistic mathematic disabilities.

empty   GOOD JOB!!!

a friendly REMINDER…

It is each and every member’s personal responsibility to insure that his own score is CORRECTLY recorded (both gross and net) on the weekly skin / work sheet.  Even though you may not have been the person keeping score for the foursome, it is your duty to insure that it was done correctly!  Do it right and you won’t end up listed in the “Moron’s Corner”!

LARRY LAHIFF'S SKIN GAMES…
are a great way to   s t r e t c h   the summer holiday weekends and play a round of golf with friends at one of the areas FINEST golf courses.
This years remaining dates are:

Friday July 3rd, and Friday September 4th.

All three events will be held at Eagle Creek GC in Norwalk. The first tee time is ~9:30 and everyone is welcome to attend.
See Larry for further details or if you have any questions.

CREEKWOOD DAY…
Our friends at Creekwood G.C. are celebrating their 49th anniversary, Saturday June 27th.  It’s a great way to observe summers arrival and party with a few of your Creekwood friends.  For only  $75 (cash or check) you get golf (18 holes, individual stroke play), ½ cart, lunch, dinner, beer, and PRIZES!  The menu, which is catered by Lone Tree Tavern (Alexander’s), consists of a PIG ROAST, Bar-B-Q Chicken, sausage & kraut, rigatoni, salad, and all the trimmings.  Deadline for payment is Tuesday June 23rd.
