LEAGUE INFO…

Recap…
Tuesday, May 19th was the third official week of the DUFFERS 2009 season.  The weather was the best it’s been so far this season with 70-degree temperatures, bright blue skies, and little or no breeze.  All we need now is for the greens to recover!  Next week, KnockDown #1 is being held.  To be eligible for KnockDown points members must play during the regular scheduled Tuesday play (no make-ups or pre-play).  All you have to do is show up and play.  Stanny will figure out the parings and points!  Attendance last night was pretty good with 51 of 56 members (91%) and 4 guests showing up to play. Former members Dave Harley and Scott White heard a rumor that last night was going to be a FunNite.  I think they were hoping for a cheap meal, a few cold beers, and some laughs.  Come on back in two weeks guys!    J
Member attendance for the year is now 92%, while total attendance, including guests and make-up rounds is an EXCELLENT 101%.

MAKE-UP ROUNDS
reported for last week…

Ron Pereira

Gerry Pizzuli

Mark Sustarsic

MEMBERS WHO MISSED Wk#03 were…

Todd Cramer

Mark Hodgson

Mickey Lima

Gerry Pizzuli

Eric Sfiligoj

REMEMBER, you have one week to play your make-up round.  You must play the same side that the league was originally scheduled to play.
Turn your scorecards in to a Creekwood Clubhouse Counter Staff Member, asking them to place it in the Duffer File, or give it to Stanny on Tuesday.
Maintain your Final Tournament Eligibility by having no more than two absences during the season!

Rules Reminder…
A little known and seldom used Duffer rule came up during a discussion the other day, that rule being;
after hitting TWO balls into a hazard, a player may elect to drop his ball across the hazard that he has been attempting to clear.  Of course, the player still incurs two penalty strokes.

Week #3 updates…
Dues are now completely collected…
Those who paid by check can expect to see them clear in a few days.  With the completion of week #3 it was time to ‘cull the heard’. Members who were no-shows and no-pays have been dropped from the active roster.

Handicaps…
Handicaps have been adjusted.  Those who have played all three weeks this season have had their 2009 handicap adjusted.  Updated handicaps can be seen by clicking the ’09 Report link located on the home page.  Members who have missed a week or two will see their handicaps updated after they have completed three regular Tuesday rounds.  Now that the adjustment has taken place, LETS GET THE MATCH PLAY TOURNAMENT ROLLING!

With ~55 members + guests and the NASA league ahead of us; the Duffers MUST play READY GOLF!

Ready Golf means BEING READY to play, not playing when you're ready. Here are some simple hints.

Let’s try to have our first group on the tee box by 4:15, right behind the NASA group.

Yesterday’s Pace of play was pretty good in the front of the pack but toward the end there were a few stragglers!
Lets try and keep up with the group ahead of you regardless of how badly or well you may be playing!

Just remember that ‘your proper position on the golf course is behind the group in front of you, NOT in front of the group behind you!’

No Gimmies
ALL PUTTS MUST BE HOLED OUT AT ALL DUFFER EVENTS.
Any member who accepts a GIMMIE is potentially taking points away from other members and is deemed to be cheating.
Chip Dubosh will be glad to discuss this issue with anyone who doesn’t quite understand the rule.

09 Match Play Tournament…
Round one of “The Match Play Tournament” started Tuesday May 12th, but to my knowledge, there have been no matches played.  Round One will end June 16th.  Tournament details, parings, and results are available at the Duffers’ website and posted on the bulletin board outside the clubhouse.

’09 Scheduled Events…
Here are the tentative dates (weather permitting) for this year’s Duffer Events.  Due to our late start this spring; some dates were changed.

KnockDowns…
Are scheduled for:
May 26th (front 9), June 30th (back 9), August 4th (front 9), and Sept. 8th (back 9).

Final Outing…
The Final Outing is being held Saturday, Sept. 12th, 9:00, at Creekwood Golf Course.  Mark your calendars now!

FYI, we will be enjoying a rib roast with chicken and all the trimmings, catered by Lone Tree Tavern.

Skin News…
Our Skin Committee members are: Chip Dubosh, Skip Skufca, Mark Sustarsic, Mike Milam, and Todd Cramer.

Their duties are to: ENCOURAGE game participation (Skin & 50/50) by our members, guarantee correct sign-in and tabulation, watch and sort the money, ensure there is no ‘after posting’, assist in score keeping, and help with prize money distribution.

50/50 raffle…
This new venture was instituted in an attempt to increase the Duffer Prize Pool without raising our Duffer Dues.  As the name suggests, 50% of the prize pool will go to the winning Duffer member each week and 50% will go to the general fund.  Entry into this game is as easy as the Skin Game, just place $1 in Skin Box and ‘X’ off the number next to your name in the 50/50 column.  Skip Skufca will draw the winning number each Tuesday after the completion of his round.  Like the Skin Game, winners who leave Creekwood early and are not present to collect their winnings will have their names highlighted in yellow on the Skin/Work Sheet and their winnings will be placed in the Skin box for pick-up the next Tuesday.

Reminder to all Skin and/or 50/50 Players…
The Skin Game is open to all dues paid MEMBERS (no guests), The 50/50 is open to everyone.  Game entry (payment and entry indication) must be made prior to teeing off.  Posting and/or paying after your round is completed, is not permitted.  Please take extra care to mark out the games you are playing correctly.  It appears that some players are not marking their entry in both games even though they may have placed their $6 in the Skin Box.  Remember, if you are not “X”ed out when you leave the tee box, you’re not in the game.

Your participation in these extracurricular games is voluntary yet robustly encouraged!  Please join the majority of your fellow Duffers in the enjoyment and competition of these games.  It will add to your Duffer experience and it might put a few extra dollars in your pocket.
Remember, you can’t win if you don’t play!
If you have any ideas or suggestions about how these games could be run more efficiently please see a committee member or Stanny.

MORON’S CORNER… (Formerly JETHRO CIPHERS)
This is the spot where I will highlight (low light) the SPECIAL skills of Duffers and their simplistic mathematic disabilities.

57–8  = 49 not 51 – Jim Martin

a friendly REMINDER…

It is each and every member’s personal responsibility to insure that his own score is CORRECTLY recorded (both gross and net) on the weekly skin / work sheet.  Even though you may not have been the person keeping score for the foursome, it is your duty to insure that it was done correctly!  Do it right and you won’t end up listed in the “Moron’s Corner”!

LARRY LAHIFF'S SKIN GAMES…
are a great way to   s t r e t c h   the summer holiday weekends and play a round of golf with friends at one of the areas FINEST golf courses.
This years dates are:

Friday May 22nd, Friday July 3rd, and Friday September 4th.

All three events will be held at Eagle Creek GC in Norwalk. The first tee time is ~9:30 and everyone is welcome to attend.
See Larry for further details or if you have any questions.

CREEKWOOD DAY…
Our friends at Creekwood G.C. are celebrating their 49th anniversary, Saturday June 27th.  It’s a great way to observe summers arrival and party with a few of your Creekwood friends.  For only  $75 (cash or check) you get golf (18 holes, individual stroke play), ˝ cart, lunch, dinner, beer, and PRIZES!  The menu, which is catered by Lone Tree Tavern (Alexander’s), consists of a PIG ROAST, Bar-B-Q Chicken, sausage & kraut, rigatoni, salad, and all the trimmings.  Deadline for payment is Tuesday June 23rd.
