Recap…
Tuesday, September 9th the 21st official week of the
DUFFERS 2008 season. The weather was
cool and mostly sunny with 68-degree temperatures indicating that fall is
really ‘just around the corner’. The
final round of the Match Tournament was played with Mark Kennedy winning a few
holes after a back-and-forth, first six holes.
Attendance last night was light with only 44 (1 pre-play)
of 50 members (88%) and 2
guests making their way around the back nine. Member attendance for the year has slipped back down to 92%,
while total attendance, including guests and make-up rounds is an excellent 101%!

REMEMBER, you have one week to play your make-up round. You must play the same side
that the league was originally scheduled to play. Turn your scorecards in to a Creekwood Clubhouse Counter Staff
Member, asking them to place it in the Duffer File, or give it to Stanny on
Tuesday.
FYI…
Official 2008 Duffer Tuesday night activities end next week. Get to Creekwood and play in the
KnockDown. Make-up rounds are not
accepted for next weeks play.
Play READY GOLF!
‘your proper position on the
golf course is behind the group in front of you, NOT in front of the group
behind you!’

Keep up with the group in front of you.
The back-o-the pack should be able to make it around in just a few
more minutes than the first group!
With summer slipping away and this years Duffer season
moving toward its end, daylight is once again an issue. Each week we are losing approximately 12
minutes of precious daylight.
Yesterday’s sunset was at 7:47, and next weeks sunset will be at 7:35.
Our last group had better tee off by 5:25 next week! Try your best to arrive early and play
quickly! Give your fellow Duffers at the back-o-the pack a break and make
EVERY effort to get around the course in a timely manner!
Special
NOTE…
No
League in Front of us next week! The NASA
league has finished for the year. The
tee box will be open ahead of us next week.
Get to Creekwood early and tee off anytime AFTER 3:45!
’08 Match Play
Tournament
Mike Kennedy is our Match Play Champion! Congratulate both Jack and Mike when you see them.
Thanks to everyone who participated in this year’s Match Play Tournament. Hopefully, the tourney will run again next
year.
Consolation
bracket…
With only ONE week of regular season play remaining, I want to
remind those of you who are in the ‘Consolation Tournament’ that you can get
back into the ‘Championship Tournament’ by winning one of the remaining
regular play WEEKLY TOURNAMENTS! The
POINTS tournament is becoming quite a horse race with a handful of players
within reach of the Points Championship. I should remind you that there is
still one KnockDown Tournament remaining and we pay off three places in
the Points Tournament, so please make every effort to get to Creekwood and play
yourselves either into the money or out of the ‘Consolation Tournament’!
Remaining ’08
Scheduled Events…
KnockDown…
The last
KnockDown is Sept. 16th (front 9).
Note: As always, you must be present and play during the regular
league hours to be eligible to receive KnockDown Tournament Points.
Final
Outing…
To prepare for the Outing, I will be collecting Visitor, Proxy,
and Extra dinner fees, along with Skin / BlindBogey moneys and
numbers next Tuesday (9/16).
Please ‘lend me a hand’ and be prepared to pay your $10 Skin fee
and give me a BlindBogey number. As a reminder, your BlindBogey number
will be subtracted from your Saturdays GROSS score. All players
whose BlindBogey results are between 70 and 80 (inclusive) will be
eligible for the BlindBogey drawing. Thanks, in advance, for your
help.
To insure there are ample T-times and meals available for everyone in
attendance, all visitor and extra meal fees must be paid by this
Tuesday (9/16).
’08
Season Final Tournament & Outing…
As you should know, the ‘08 Final Outing is being held
at Creekwood Country Club, Saturday, September 20th at
9:00. It’s usually an all day
affair. The only cost to members is $10
for entry into the Skins / Blind Bogey game.
All league members and guests will receive 18-holes (carts
included) and dinner (steak roast, with all the trimmings) catered by Alexander’s
Restaurant. A prize ceremony will
follow dinner.
As in any Duffer event, GUESTS are welcome to attend. However, this year, guests are not
eligible for any games or prizes (including skins / blind bogey). If you
still wish to bring a guest to play in your foursome, the cost is
$60.
Extra meals for wives, girl friends, or significant others are
available for $20 each.
A league member
who is unable to attend ‘The Outing’ may designate a guest “proxy player” to
attend at the reduced price of $40.
This ‘proxy player” program was instituted as a courtesy to members who can’t attend ‘The Outing’ thus providing them the ability to give the gift of a dinner to a friend, while still allowing ‘The League’ to maintain it’s significant prize pool. “Proxy players” are considered to be guests and as such, are excluded from all money games.
All guest, ‘proxy’,
and extra dinner fees must be PAID IN FULL by Tuesday Sept. 16th. Tee times and extra meals can only
be guaranteed to 100% committed members and Paid-in-Full guests.
See Stanny if you have any questions or comments.
Skin News…
’08 AfterSkins & Pins extension season starts Tuesday (9/23)...
Just because the official League activities have come to an
end doesn't mean that golf on Tuesday evening will end. Join us for
Skins and Pins through the months of September and October. It's a
beautiful time of the year to play a round at Creekwood!
It is
open to ALL players with no restrictions so come on out and play!
Our Skin Committee members are:
Mark Roth, Todd Cramer, Josh ‘Pronk’ Bunevich, Mike Milam,
and Chip Dubosh.
Their
duties are to: ENCOURAGE participation, ensure correct
sign-in and tabulation, watch and sort the money, ensure there is no ‘after
posting’, assist in score keeping, and help with prize money
distribution.
If you have any suggestions or ideas about how the Skin Game can be run more
efficiently speak with a committee member, or Stanny

Hey guys (girls)… it’s just like the lotto, ‘you can’t win
if you don’t PLAY!
Tuesdays Winners were…
Low Net (33) – Jason Bundrant – $16 – played his way out of the
Consolation Bracket. Way to go
Jason!!
Low Net (33) – Mickey Lima – $16
Pin #12 – Stanny – $32
Pin #17 – Mike Milam – $32
Tradition dictates that they buy you a drink, or be heckled miserably!
NO SKINS WERE
OUT… $64 will be
carried over to next Week’s Skins.
If you were
not in this week’s Skins Game, next week’s Skins WILL COST YOU $7.00 and
will be indicated on the Skin / Work Sheet.
NOTE… PLEASE DON’T
PREMATURELY CIRCLE YOUR BIRDIES ON THE SKIN SHEET! It’s a pretty television graphic presentation BUT it makes it
VERY DIFFICULT to see the TRUE SKINS!
MORON’S
CORNER… (Formerly JETHRO CIPHERS)
This is the spot where I will highlight (low light) the SPECIAL
skills of Duffers and their simplistic mathematic disabilities.
4+5+4+4+4+5+6+6+3 = 41 not 38 – Frank Bago – would have been the
low net (32), cost him $32 L
5+10+7+7+4+4+7+7+5 = 56 not 57 – Bob King
BUT, the Biggest
Morons of the night were definitely:
Pete
Cloherty, Dave Haeberlie, and Wayne Reisinger
who played the
game but FAILED TO RECORD THEIR SCORES. L
a friendly REMINDER…
It is each and every
member’s personal responsibility to insure that his own score is CORRECTLY
recorded (both gross and net) on the weekly skin / work
sheet. Even
though you may not have been the person keeping score for the foursome, it is
your duty to insure that it was done correctly! Do it
right and you won’t end up listed in the “Moron’s Corner”!
Ryder Cup Tournament…
The Duffers and the Dominion Gas
golf leagues are planning to have another inter-league Ryder Cup
Tournament between the two leagues. If you are interested in representing
The Duffers in this event, speak with Mickey Lima.
Hopefully it will be held earlier than last years Tournament (10/13/2007). More information will be presented as it
becomes available.
'Till Tuesday,
