LEAGUE INFO…

Recap…
Tuesday, September 2nd the 20th official week of the DUFFERS 2008 season.  The weather was hot and sunny with 85-degree temperatures.  The final round of the Match Tournament is waiting to be played with League President, Jack Tabor meeting Mike Kennedy.  Attendance last night was light with only 42 (1 pre-play) of 50 members (84%) and 5 guests making their way around the front nine.  It sure was great to see former members Dave Harley and Batman hanging around the clubhouse last night!  Member attendance for the year has slipped back down to 92%, while total attendance, including guests and make-up rounds has moved back down to an excellent 101%!

REMEMBER
, you have one week to play your make-up round.  You must play the same side that the league was originally scheduled to play.  Turn your scorecards in to a Creekwood Clubhouse Counter Staff Member, asking them to place it in the Duffer File, or give it to Stanny on Tuesday.

Play READY GOLF!
your proper position on the golf course is behind the group in front of you, NOT in front of the group behind you!’

Keep up with the group in front of you.  The back-o-the pack should be able to make it around in just a few more minutes than the first group!

With summer slipping away and this years Duffer season moving toward its end, daylight is once again an issue.  Each week we are losing approximately 12 minutes of precious daylight.  Yesterday’s sunset was at 7:58, and next weeks sunset will be at 7:47.  Our last group had better tee off by 5:40 next week!  Try your best to arrive early and play quickly! Give your fellow Duffers at the back-o-the pack a break and make EVERY effort to get around the course in a timely maner!

’08 Match Play Tournament
Round #5 has been finalized and awaits Jack Tabor and Mike Kennedy to face off in the FINAL Round.  Good luck to both our finalists and thanks to everyone who participated in this year’s Match Play Tournament.  Hopefully, the tourney will run again next year.

Consolation bracket…
With only TWO weeks of regular season play remaining, I want to remind those of you who are in the ‘Consolation Tournament’ that you can get back into the ‘Championship Tournament’ by winning one of the remaining regular play WEEKLY TOURNAMENTS!  The POINTS tournament is becoming quite a horse race with a handful of players within reach of the Points Championship. I should remind you that there is still one KnockDown Tournament remaining and we pay off three places in the Points Tournament, so please make every effort to get to Creekwood and play yourselves either into the money or out of the ‘Consolation Tournament’!

Remaining ’08 Scheduled Events

KnockDowns…
The last KnockDown is Sept. 16th (front 9).
Note: As always, you must be present and play during the regular league hours to be eligible to receive KnockDown Tournament Points.

Final Outing…

’08 Season Final Tournament & Outing…
Soon, I will start preparing for The Duffer Outing.  It’s time to start thinking about your groupings and tee times.
Most tee times will be available to ‘committed FOURSOMES’ on a first-come, first-served basis.  As you should know, the ‘08 Final Outing is being held at Creekwood Country Club, Saturday, September 20th at 9:00.  It’s usually an all day affair.  The only cost to members is $10 for entry into the Skins / Blind Bogey game.  All league members and guests will receive 18-holes (carts included) and dinner (steak roast, with all the trimmings) catered by Alexander’s Restaurant.  A prize ceremony will follow dinner.

As in any Duffer event, GUESTS are welcome to attend.  However, this year, guests are not eligible for any games or prizes (including skins / blind bogey). If you still wish to bring a guest to play in your foursome, the cost is $60.

Extra meals for wives, girl friends, or significant others are available for $20 each.

A league member who is unable to attend ‘The Outing’ may designate a guest “proxy player” to attend at the reduced price of $40.

This ‘proxy player” program was instituted as a courtesy to members who can’t attend ‘The Outing’ thus providing them the ability to give the gift of a dinner to a friend, while still allowing ‘The League’ to maintain it’s significant prize pool.  “Proxy players” are considered to be guests and as such, are excluded from all money games.

All guest, ‘proxy’, and extra dinner fees must be PAID IN FULL by Tuesday Sept. 16th.  Tee times and extra meals can only be guaranteed to 100% committed members and Paid-in-Full guests.

See Stanny if you have any questions or comments.

Skin News…
Our Skin Committee members are:
Mark Roth, Todd Cramer, Josh ‘Pronk’ Bunevich, Mike Milam, and Chip Dubosh.

Their duties are to: ENCOURAGE participation, ensure correct sign-in and tabulation, watch and sort the money, ensure there is no ‘after posting’, assist in score keeping, and help with prize money distribution.
If you have any suggestions or ideas about how the Skin Game can be run more efficiently speak with a committee member, or Stanny

SKIN Results for Wk #20…
we had 35 out of the 41 players (85%) in the game for a pot of  $165… For the first time this year, THE POT WAS $5 LIGHT!!!  L
those not playing were…
Rich Began
Ted Dieterich
Donny Griffith
Jim Martin
Rob Sibley
Charlie Wright
Hey guys (girls)… it’s just like the lotto, ‘you can’t win if you don’t PLAY!

Tuesdays Winners were…

Low Net (31) – Mark Roth – $33
Pin #4 – Mark Roth – $33
Pin #7 – Todd Cramer – $33

TWO Skins were out @ $33 each…
#1 – birdie – Todd Cramer

#6 – birdie – Skip Skufca

Tradition dictates that they buy you a drink, or be heckled miserably!

NOTE… PLEASE DON’T PREMATURELY CIRCLE YOUR BIRDIES ON THE SKIN SHEET!  It’s a pretty television graphic presentation BUT it makes it VERY DIFFICULT to see the TRUE SKINS!

MORON’S CORNER… (Formerly JETHRO CIPHERS)
This is the spot where I will highlight (low light) the SPECIAL skills of Duffers and their simplistic mathematic disabilities.

5+4+5+4+5+4+5+5+5 = 42 not 43 – Frank Bago
5+6+5+5+6+5+4+3+6 = 45 not 46 – Ted Dieterich

42-9 = 33 not 31 – Mark Hodgson

a friendly REMINDER…
It is each and every member’s personal responsibility to insure that his own score is CORRECTLY recorded (both gross and net) on the weekly skin / work sheet.  Even though you may not have been the person keeping score for the foursome, it is your duty to insure that it was done correctly!  Do it right and you won’t end up listed in the “Moron’s Corner”!
