LEAGUE INFO…

Recap…
Tuesday, August 19th was the 18th official week and third FunNite of the DUFFERS 2008 season.  The weather was warm, sunny, and pleasant.  Our 3rd and final FunNite of this season was held last night.  If you were absent, you missed a great summer picnic traditional meal consisting of thick juicy burgers, grilled hot dogs, and potato salads.  A great big thanks goes out to the FunNite #3 Committee: Mickey Lima and Dave Gedeon, for their efforts putting on another memorable Duffer FunNite event!  Since last night’s golf was basically the ‘standard weekly format’, make-up rounds will be accepted and missed rounds will be counted against your Final Championship Tournament bracket eligibility.  Attendance, as one would expect on a FunNite, was good with 46 of 50 members (92%) and 4 guests green balling their way around the front-nine.  Member attendance for the year remains 92%, while total attendance, including guests and make-up rounds remains an incredible 101%!

REMEMBER
, you have one week to play your make-up round.  You must play the same side that the league was originally scheduled to play.  Turn your scorecards in to a Creekwood Clubhouse Counter Staff Member, asking them to place it in the Duffer File, or give it to Stanny on Tuesday.

With 50 members and the NASA league ahead of us, the Duffers MUST play READY GOLF!
Be ready to hit when it’s your turn
.  Plan in advance; think about your up-coming shot while you’re approaching the ball and go ahead and hit it if there is no one else in the vicinity, regardless of who has honors.  If you are not in another player’s way, line up your putt while another player is hitting his.  Regardless of the ‘beer girl’ not everyone in the foursome needs to hang around the beer cart when she is present, someone should be hitting the ball while others are buying the beer.  Please recognize that your proper position on the golf course is behind the group in front of you, NOT in front of the group behind you!’

Keep up with the group in front of you.  The back-o-the pack should be able to make it around in just a few more minutes than the first group!

With summer slipping away and this years Duffer season moving toward its end, daylight is once again an issue.  Each week we are losing more and more daylight.  Yesterday’s sunset was at 8:21 while next weeks sunset will be 8:10.  Give your fellow Duffers at the back-o-the pack a break and make an effort to get around the course in a timely manner.

’08 Match Play Tournament
Round #4 ends next Tuesday (8/26). I hope it doesn’t rain!

FunNite #3…
GreenBall results can be viewed from the Home Page.

Consolation bracket…
With only Four weeks of regular season play remaining, I want to remind those of you who are in the ‘Consolation Tournament’ that you can get back into the ‘Championship Tournament’ by winning one of the remaining WEEKLY regular play TOURNAMENTS!  The POINTS tournament is becoming quite a horse race with a handful of players’ with-in reach of the Points Championship. I should remind you that there is still one KnockDown Tournament remaining and we pay off three places in the Points Tournament, so please make every effort to get to Creekwood and play yourselves either into the money or out of the ‘Consolation Tournament’!

Remaining ’08 Scheduled Events

KnockDowns…
Remaining KnockDown date is: Sept. 16th (front 9).

Final Outing…
The Final Outing is being held Saturday, Sept. 20th, 9:00, at Creekwood Golf Course.  Mark your calendars now!

FYI, we will be enjoying a steak roast with all the trimmings, catered by Alexander’s.

Skin News…
Our Skin Committee members are:
Mark Roth, Todd Cramer, Josh ‘Pronk’ Bunevich, Mike Milam, and Chip Dubosh.

Their duties are to: ENCOURAGE participation, ensure correct sign-in and tabulation, watch and sort the money, ensure there is no ‘after posting’, assist in score keeping, and help with prize money distribution.
If you have any suggestions or ideas about how the Skin Game can be run more efficiently speak with a committee member, or Stanny

SKIN Results for Wk #18…
we had 44 out of the 46 players (96%) in the game for a pot of  $220
those not playing were…
Donny Griffith
Jim Martin
Hey guys (girls)… it’s just like the lotto, ‘you can’t win if you don’t PLAY!

Tuesdays Winners were…

Low Net (31) – Scott Roth – $44
Pin #4 – Mark Hodgson – $44
Pin #7 – Mike Milam – $44

Four Skins were out @ $22 each…
#1 – birdie – Mike Kennedy
#2 – birdie – Mark Sustarsic
#3 – birdie – Josh ‘Pronk” Bunevich
#4 – birdie – Mark Hodgson
Tradition dictates that they buy you a drink, or be heckled miserably!

NOTE… PLEASE DON’T PREMATURELY CIRCLE YOUR BIRDIES ON THE SKIN SHEET!  It’s a pretty television graphic presentation BUT it makes it VERY DIFFICULT to see the TRUE SKINS!

MORON’S CORNER… (Formerly JETHRO CIPHERS)
This is the spot where I will highlight (low light) the SPECIAL skills of Duffers and their simplistic mathematic disabilities.

6+4+5+3+6+4+4+4+6 = 42 not 43 – Frank Bago
7+6+7+6+9+4+5+7+8 = 59 not 60 – Paul Ebright
6+4+5+4+7+5+5+4+7 = 47 not 48 – Charlie Wright

a friendly REMINDER…
It is each and every member’s personal responsibility to insure that his own score is CORRECTLY recorded (both gross and net) on the weekly skin / work sheet.  Even though you may not have been the person keeping score for the foursome, it is your duty to insure that it was done correctly!  Do it right and you won’t end up listed in the “Moron’s Corner”!

LARRY LAHIFF'S SKIN GAMES…
are a great way to   s t r e t c h   the summer holiday weekends and play a round of golf with friends at one of the areas FINEST golf courses.

This year’s remaining date is Friday, August 29th at Eagle Creek GC in Norwalk. The first tee time is ~9:30 and everyone is welcome to attend.
See Larry for further details or if you have any questions.

'Till Tuesday,
