LEAGUE INFO…

Recap…
Tuesday, August 12th was the 17th official week and third KnockDown of the DUFFERS 2008 season.  The weather was close to perfect with sunny skies and near 80-degree temperatures.  Round #4 of the Match Play Tournament continued with NO matches being played.  Attendance was better than average with 47 of 50 members (94%) and 5 guests making their way around the back nine.  One of those guests, Freddy Lima made his first HOLE-IN-ONE on the 12th hole!  Thanx for the beers Fred!  Member attendance for the year remains 92%, while total attendance, including guests and make-up rounds remains an incredible 101%!

REMEMBER
, you have one week to play your make-up round.  You must play the same side that the league was originally scheduled to play.  Turn your scorecards in to a Creekwood Clubhouse Counter Staff Member, asking them to place it in the Duffer File, or give it to Stanny on Tuesday.

With 50 members and the NASA league ahead of us, the Duffers MUST play READY GOLF!
Be ready to hit when it’s your turn
.  Plan in advance; think about your up-coming shot while you’re approaching the ball and go ahead and hit it if there is no one else in the vicinity, regardless of who has honors.  If you are not in another player’s way, line up your putt while another player is hitting his.  Regardless of the ‘beer girl’ not everyone in the foursome needs to hang around the beer cart when she is present, someone should be hitting the ball while others are buying the beer.  Please recognize that your proper position on the golf course is behind the group in front of you, NOT in front of the group behind you!’

Keep up with the group in front of you.  The back-o-the pack should be able to make it around in just a few more minutes than the first group!

With summer slipping away and this years Duffer season moving toward its end, daylight will once again become an issue.  Each week we will be losing more and more daylight, as sunset is earlier and earlier.  Yesterday’s sunset was at 8:31 while next weeks sunset will be 8:21.  Give your fellow Duffers at the back-o-the pack a break and make an effort to get around the course in a timely manner.

’08 Match Play Tournament
Round #4 continued last night with NO matches being played.  No matches can be played next week during FunNite.  That leaves just ONE date remaining (8/26). I hope it doesn’t rain that night!  Get ‘er DONE!

KnockDown #3…
results can be viewed from the Home Page.

FunNite #3…
Our last FunNite of the ’08 season is being held (weather permitting) next Tuesday (8/19).  Mickey Lima and Dave Gedeon are planning to have burgers and dogs along with the traditional picnic fare.  The FUN portion of the evening will be the beloved GREEN BALL TOURNAMENT.

Pick your own 3-man team.  Each team will be given one green golf ball to use in the event.  Your team must then finish the round with that ball, still in its possession, to be eligible for any prizes.  The GREEN BALL TOURNAMENT is 100% voluntary.  If you are one of those four sums who must play together, three players can participate in the tournament while the fourth player can play along for the fun of it all.  Also, those players who don’t usually play in the “Money Games” (Rich Began, Don Griffith, Jim Martin, Charlie Wright) can fill in to make foursomes to aid in pace-of-play!  As stated above, daylight is starting to become an issue.  With so many threesomes playing it will be imperative to keep our slow poke asses moving around the course next week!

Here’s a refresher on how the GREEN BALL TOURNAMENT is played:

Each team member will alternately play 3 holes with the green ball.   For example, player ‘A’ will have the green ball on holes 1, 4, and 7, player ‘B’ will be given the green ball to play holes 2, 5, and 8.  Then player ‘C’ will play the green ball on holes 3, 6, and 9.   To add to the drama, the tournament will be scored as a NET event, so pick your team’s player rotation wisely to get the most out of each player’s strokes.

hint…
Choose your team members as well as your team’s ROTATION wisely!  We will be playing the front side and there are six ‘water holes’ that come into play.  So, if you decide to gamble with the player who is getting two strokes on a hole, be prepared to loose the green ball and any chance your team may have to finish ‘in the money’!

NOTE…
The ‘tie breaker’ will be Total Team Putts so COUNT AND RECORD YOUR PUTTS!

Remaining ’08 Scheduled Events
Here are the tentative dates (weather permitting) for this year’s Duffer Events.

KnockDowns…
Remaining KnockDown date is: Sept. 16th (front 9).

Final Outing…
The Final Outing is being held Saturday, Sept. 20th, 9:00, at Creekwood Golf Course.  Mark your calendars now!

FYI, we will be enjoying a steak roast with all the trimmings, catered by Alexander’s.

Skin News…
Our Skin Committee members are:
Mark Roth, Todd Cramer, Josh ‘Pronk’ Bunevich, Mike Milam, and Chip Dubosh.

Their duties are to: ENCOURAGE participation, ensure correct sign-in and tabulation, watch and sort the money, ensure there is no ‘after posting’, assist in score keeping, and help with prize money distribution.
If you have any suggestions or ideas about how the Skin Game can be run more efficiently speak with a committee member, or Stanny

Low Net (32) – Pete White – $40
Pin #12 – Paul Ebright ?? – $40
Pin #17 – Ron Cross ?? – $40

Three Skins were out @ $26 each…

Tradition dictates that they buy you a drink, or be heckled miserably!

NOTE… PLEASE DON’T PREMATURELY CIRCLE YOUR BIRDIES ON THE SKIN SHEET!  It’s a pretty television graphic presentation BUT it makes it VERY DIFFICULT to see the TRUE SKINS!

Reminder to all Skin Players…
This Year’s Skin Game is open to all dues paid MEMBERS (no guests).  Game entry (payment and entry indication) must be made prior to teeing off.
Posting and/or paying after your round is completed, is not permitted.

MORON’S CORNER… (Formerly JETHRO CIPHERS)
This is the spot where I will highlight (low light) the SPECIAL skills of Duffers and their simplistic mathematic disabilities.

4+4+5+7+5+6+6+4+4 = 45 not 47 – Mark Hodgson

a friendly REMINDER…

It is each and every member’s personal responsibility to insure that his own score is CORRECTLY recorded (both gross and net) on the weekly skin / work sheet.  Even though you may not have been the person keeping score for the foursome, it is your duty to insure that it was done correctly!  Do it right and you won’t end up listed in the “Moron’s Corner”!

LARRY LAHIFF'S SKIN GAMES…
are a great way to   s t r e t c h   the summer holiday weekends and play a round of golf with friends at one of the areas FINEST golf courses.
