LEAGUE INFO…

Recap…
Tuesday, June 24th was the eleventh official week of the DUFFERS 2008 season.  The weather was closer to the summer-time temperatures one would expect at this time-o-year with close to 80-degree temperatures and mostly sunny skies.  The Match Play Tournament got back into gear with 6 of the scheduled 8 matches being played.  Attendance was pretty good with 45 (1 pre-play) of 50 members (90%) and 6 guests making their way around the front side.  Member attendance for the year remains 92%, while total attendance, including guests and make-up rounds is back up to 100%!

MEMBERS WHO MISSED
Wk #11 were…

Mark Hodgson

Rick Lear

Mark Roth

Mark Sustarsic

Scott White

Maintain your Final Tournament Eligibility by having no more than two absences during the season!

REMEMBER
, you have one week to play your make-up round.  You must play the same side that the league was originally scheduled to play.  Turn your scorecards in to a Creekwood Clubhouse Counter Staff Member, asking them to place it in the Duffer File, or give it to Stanny on Tuesday.

With 50 members and the NASA league ahead of us, the Duffers MUST play READY GOLF!
Be ready to hit when it’s your turn
.  Plan in advance; think about your up-coming shot while you’re approaching the ball and go ahead and hit it if there is no one else in the vicinity, regardless of who has honors.  If you are not in another player’s way, line up your putt while another player is hitting his.  Regardless of the ‘beer girl’ not everyone in the foursome needs to hang around the beer cart when she is present, someone should be hitting the ball while others are buying the beer.  Please recognize that your proper position on the golf course is behind the group in front of you, NOT in front of the group behind you!’

Help Needed…
Paul Chichester has a friend whose son has been diagnosed with leukemia.  To help out with medical costs, Paul has put together a FUNDRAISING GOLF OUTING to be held at Sweetbriar G.C. in Avon Lake on August 2nd at 11:30.  Click here, or check out the Duffers home page, or see Paul Chichester for more information.  Hopefully, “The Duffers” will be able to get a few foursomes together to help out.

’08 Match Play Tournament
Round #2 continued last Tuesday night with 6 matches being played.  That leaves just two matches left to be played July 8th; I hope it doesn’t rain that night!  The two remaining matches are…

John Little

Allen Bass

Scott Pennell

Mike Kennedy

This ‘second round’ ends with just ONE remaining play dates (July 8th), so contact your opponent and get your MATCH played.

FunNite #2…
is being held next Tuesday (July1st).  As I understand it, Alexander’s is providing chicken wings along with some munchies.  As usual, refreshments of beer and pop will also be provided.  The FUN portion of the evening will be a ‘you pick-em’ TWO-MAN SCRAMBLE.  The entry fee, should you wish to participate, will be $10.  “The Committee” has decided that all prizes will be awarded on a TEAM basis.  Those prizes will be:
First Place – tiebreaker being best score on hardest (lowest handicapped holes).
Last Place – tiebreaker being worst score on easiest (highest handicapped holes).
Pin Shot #12
Pin Shot #17
Skins Game

Member participation in the scramble format is voluntary.  If you would rather play ‘regular golf’, come out and play then enjoy the FunNite festivities.

Guests are welcome to attend for a fee of $5.  They can play regular golf or a scramble but they are not eligible to participate in “The League” money games.  The $5 fee will be assessed to all guests regardless if they eat or not.

Remaining ’08 Scheduled Events
Here are the tentative dates (weather permitting) for this year’s Duffer Events.

The Final Outing is being held Saturday, Sept. 20th, 9:00, at Creekwood Golf Course.  Mark your calendars now!

FYI, we will be enjoying a steak roast with all the trimmings, catered by Alexander’s.

Skin News…
Our Skin Committee members are:
Mark Roth, Todd Cramer, Josh ‘Pronk’ Bunevich, Mike Milam, and Chip Dubosh.

Their duties are to: ENCOURAGE participation, ensure correct sign-in and tabulation, watch and sort the money, ensure there is no ‘after posting’, assist in score keeping, and help with prize money distribution.
If you have any suggestions or ideas about how the Skin Game can be run more efficiently speak with a committee member, or Stanny

SKIN Results for Wk #11…
we had 37 out of the 44 players (84%) in the game for a pot of  $180
those not playing were…
Rich Began

Jason Bundrant
Wayne Cerney
Donny Griffith
Jim Martin

Charlie Wright
John Zitello
Hey guys… it’s just like the lotto, ‘you can’t win if you don’t PLAY!

Tuesdays Winners were…

Low Net (28) – Mark Clark – $18
Low Net (28) – Ron Cross – $18
Pin #4 – Ron Cross – $36
Pin #7 – Skip Skufca – $36

THREE Skins were out @ $24 each…
#2 – birdie – Dave Haeberlie
#5 – birdie – John Toth
#9 – birdie – Wayne Reisinger

Tradition dictates that they buy you a drink, or be heckled miserably!

NOTE… PLEASE DON’T PREMATURELY CIRCLE YOUR BIRDIES ON THE SKIN SHEET!  It’s a pretty television graphic presentation BUT it makes it VERY DIFFICULT to see the TRUE SKINS!

Reminder to all Skin Players…
This Year’s Skin Game is open to all dues paid MEMBERS (no guests).  Game entry (payment and entry indication) must be made prior to teeing off.
Posting and/or paying after your round is completed, is not permitted.

MORON’S CORNER… (Formerly JETHRO CIPHERS)
This is the spot where I will highlight (low light) the SPECIAL skills of Duffers and their simplistic mathematic disabilities.

5+6+6+3+5+4+4+5+5 = 43 not 44 – Rich Began
4+5+4+3+6+7+4+6+6 = 45 not 46 – Mike Kennedy

a friendly REMINDER…

It is each and every member’s personal responsibility to insure that his own score is CORRECTLY recorded (both gross and net) on the weekly skin / work sheet.  Even though you may not have been the person keeping score for the foursome, it is your duty to insure that it was done correctly!  Do it right and you won’t end up listed in the “Moron’s Corner”!

LARRY LAHIFF'S SKIN GAMES…
are a great way to   s t r e t c h   the summer holiday weekends and play a round of golf with friends at one of the areas FINEST golf courses.

This year’s remaining date is Friday, August 29th at Eagle Creek GC in Norwalk. The first tee time is ~9:30 and everyone is welcome to attend.
See Larry for further details or if you have any questions.

'Till Tuesday,
