LEAGUE INFO…

Recap…
Tuesday, May 13th was the fifth, official week of the DUFFERS 2008 season.  The weather was beautiful with sunny skies and 70-degree temperatures.  Creekwood was in excellent condition.  I never thought I would be complaining that there was too much grass at Creekwood but it’s thick and beautiful and very difficult to play out of the rough!  The Match Tournament moved into its’ second week with three more matches being played.  It’s time to finalize your playing arrangements with your opponent.  Contact and pairing information is available on the web site and the Creekwood patio bulletin board.  GOOD LUCK to those who have elected to participate!!

We had 47 of 50 members (94%) and 2 guests take advantage of yesterday’s perfect conditions. Those who missed yesterdays round will have the usual 1-week to play their make-up round.
Member attendance for the year has risen to a very good 92%, while total attendance, including guests and make-up rounds is an EXCELLENT 98%.

Our first group lagged behind a bit yesterday.
When they were observed playing the 8th hole, the last NASA group was already “in the clubhouse”, making them at least a hole-and-a-half BEHIND!      L   Be kind to the Duffers who are playing behind you, keep up with the group in front of you.
The Creekwood staff has worked with the NASA group and their pace-o-play has improved; now it’s time to prove that The Duffers are NOT the problem. PLEASE keep up with the group ahead of you!

With 50 members and the NASA league ahead of us, the Duffers MUST play READY GOLF!
Be ready to hit when it’s your turn
.  Plan in advance; think about your up-coming shot while you’re approaching the ball and go ahead and hit it if there is no one else in the vicinity, regardless of who has honors.  If you are not in another player’s way, line up your putt while another player is hitting his.  Regardless of the ‘beer girl’ not everyone in the foursome needs to hang around the beer cart when she is present, someone should be hitting the ball while others are buying the beer.  Please recognize that your proper position on the golf course is behind the group in front of you, NOT in front of the group behind you!’

Maintain your Final Tournament Eligibility by having no more than two absences during the season!

REMEMBER
, you have one week to play your make-up round.  You must play the same side that the league was originally scheduled to play.  Turn your scorecards in to a Creekwood Clubhouse Counter Staff Member, asking them to place it in the Duffer File, or give it to Stanny on Tuesday.

No Gimmies
ALL PUTTS MUST BE HOLED OUT AT ALL DUFFER EVENTS.
Any member who accepts a GIMMIE is potentially taking points away from other members and is deemed to be cheating.
Chip Dubosh will be glad to discuss this issue with anyone who doesn’t quite understand the rule.

FunNite #1
is being held next Tuesday, May 20th.  The plans have been finalized and here they are:  menu is typical picnic fare with burgers and hot Italian sausage.  Beverages and maybe a salad or chips will also be provided.
The GAME portion of FunNite #1 will a blind pick, fully handicapped, BEST BALL TOURNAMENT.  If you wish to participate the cost will be $10 (regular skins included).  All you have to do is pay your money, pick a ticket, and record the last three digits (like you did for the Match play), and then play golf as you would any regular Weekly Tournament league day.  Note…  the tiebreaker is “total team putts” so be sure to count and record your putts. Teams will be made up and prize money will be distributed the following week.  To see an example of how this event is scored, go to 2006, FunNite #1, on the Duffers web site.  Since this even is basically a “regular play day” make-up rounds will be accepted and if missed, will be held as usual, against your Final Tournament eligibility.

The ’08 Match Play Tournament
Started May 6th.
Results can be monitored from the home page.  Contact your opponents and decide when you want to get your MATCH played.  You have until June 10th to get this first round played.
Some things to consider: next weeks FunNite will basically be ‘regular play’ so it can be used as an additional Match Play date. The Creekwood greens will be aerated and top-dressed in the next few weeks; do you want to play your Match in those conditions?  If you are waiting for your opponents handicap to go down before you play, it is possible for it to rise at almost any time.

Tradition dictates that they buy you a drink, or be heckled miserably!

NOTE… PLEASE DON’T PREMATURELY CIRCLE YOUR BIRDIES ON THE SKIN SHEET!  It’s a pretty television graphic presentation BUT it makes it VERY DIFFICULT to see the TRUE SKINS!

Reminder to all Skin Players…
This Year’s Skin Game is open to all dues paid MEMBERS (no guests).  Game entry (payment and entry indication) must be made prior to teeing off.
Posting and/or paying after your round is completed, is not permitted.

MORON’S CORNER… (Formerly JETHRO CIPHERS)
This is the spot where I will highlight (low light) the SPECIAL skills of Duffers and their simplistic mathematic disabilities.

EMPTY!!!  Congratulations to all you none Jethro’s!   J

a friendly REMINDER…
It is each and every member’s personal responsibility to insure that his own score is CORRECTLY recorded (both gross and net) on the weekly skin / work sheet.  Even though you may not have been the person keeping score for the foursome, it is your duty to insure that it was done correctly!  Do it right and you won’t end up listed in the “Moron’s Corner”!

LARRY LAHIFF'S SKIN GAMES…
are a great way to   s t r e t c h   the summer holiday weekends and play a round of golf with friends at one of the areas FINEST golf courses.
