LEAGUE INFO…

Recap…
Tuesday, April 15th was the first official week of the DUFFERS 2008 season.  The weather was sunny, cool, and calm.  With no snow or lightning in the area, the weather was nicer than many previous Duffer Opening Days! It’s good to finally get going with the regular season.  Those who missed yesterdays round will have the usual 1-week to play a make-up round.

Attendance was lighter than expected considering the generally pleasant conditions!  Only 41 of 48 members (85%) and 1 guest made their way to the tee box.
Member attendance for the year is 85%, while total attendance, including guests and make-up rounds is 88%.

 well after sunset, DARK!

The Creekwood staff is aware of the SLOW PLAY we are experiencing.  Hopefully, steps will be taken to insure that the NASA group ahead of us will start moving along at a more acceptable pace, (2:15) would be a good target.  However, if we are going to complain about their SLOW PLAY, you must keep up with the group ahead of your group!

Volunteers are still needed!
We still need a few people to fill out the FunNite Committees (see below).
We need a PRESIDENT!  It is generally a puff position with few responsibilities that almost anyone could fill.  Hopefully an experienced member will step forward and fill the position.

MEMBERS WHO MISSED Wk #1 were…

Bill Bunevich

Pete Cloherty

Paul Ebright

Bob King

John Little

Tom Reiss

Mark Sustarsic

REMEMBER
, you have one week to play your make-up round.  You must play the same side that the league was originally scheduled to play.  Turn your scorecards in to a Creekwood Clubhouse Counter Staff Member, asking them to place it in the Duffer File, or give it to Stanny on Tuesday.
Also:
Even though no points are awarded to members whose dues are not paid-in-full, your make-up rounds are eligible for handicap and attendance purposes.  Maintain your Final Tournament Eligibility by having no more than two absences during the season!

MAKE-UP ROUNDS reported for last week…

No Gimmies
ALL PUTTS MUST BE HOLED OUT AT ALL DUFFER EVENTS.
Any member who accepts a GIMMIE is potentially taking points away from other members and is deemed to be cheating.
Chip Dubosh will be glad to discuss this issue with anyone who doesn’t quite understand the rule.

The ’08 Match Play Tournament
Is open to the first 32 interested, dues paid members.  Tournament details are available at the Duffers’ website.

With close to 50 members and the NASA league ahead of us, the Duffers MUST play READY GOLF!
Be ready to hit when it’s your turn
.  Plan in advance; think about your up-coming shot while you’re approaching the ball and go ahead and hit it if there is no one else in the vicinity, regardless of who has honors.  If you are not in another player’s way, line up your putt while another player is hitting his.  Regardless of the ‘beer girl’ not everyone in the foursome needs to hang around the beer cart when she is present, someone should be hitting the ball while others are buying the beer.
Please recognize that your proper position on the golf course is behind the group in front of you, NOT in front of the group behind you!’

Skin News…
Our Skin Committee members are: Mark Roth, Todd Cramer, Josh Bunevich, Mike Milam, and Chip Dubosh.

Their duties are to: ENCOURAGE participation from our members, ensure correct sign-in and tabulation, watch and sort the money, ensure there is no ‘after posting’, assist in score keeping, and help with prize money distribution.

SKIN RESULTS for Wk #01…
we had 35 out of the 41 players (85%) in the game for a pot of  $170
those not playing were…
Rich Began
Tom Broadhurst
Ted Dieterich
Donny Griffith
Jim Martin
Charlie Wright
Hey guys… it’s just like the lotto, ‘you can’t win if you don’t PLAY!

Low Net (34) – Dave Haeberlie – $17
Low Net (34) – Mickey Lima – $17
Pin #4 – Larry Lahiff – $34

Pin #7 – Josh ‘PRONK’ Bunevich – $34

Two Skins were out @ $34 each
#2 – birdie – Mickey Lima
#5 – birdie – John Toth
Tradition dictates that they buy you a drink, or be heckled miserably!

NOTE… PLEASE DON’T PREMATURELY CIRCLE YOUR BIRDIES ON THE SKIN SHEET!  It’s a pretty television graphic presentation BUT it makes it VERY DIFFICULT to see the TRUE SKINS!

MORON’S CORNER… (Formerly JETHRO CIPHERS)
This is the spot where I will highlight (low light) the SPECIAL skills of Duffers and their simplistic mathematic disabilities.

9+9+6+5+8+7+8+8+8 = 68 not 63 – Mark Clark
6+4+5+3+7+5+5+5+5 = 45 not 46 – Mike Kennedy
5+4+7+4+4+4+5+4+7 = 44 not 46 – John Toth
53 - 9 = 44 not 62 – Dale Sandvick      LMFAO

a friendly REMINDER…
It is each and every member’s personal responsibility to insure that his own score is CORRECTLY recorded (both gross and net) on the weekly skin / work sheet.  Even though you may not have been the person keeping score for the foursome, it is your duty to insure that it was done correctly!  Do it right and you won’t end up listed in the “Moron’s Corner”!

LARRY LAHIFF'S SKIN GAMES…
are a great way to   s t r e t c h   the summer holiday weekends and play a round of golf with friends at one of the areas FINEST golf courses.

This years dates are:
Friday May 23rd and Friday August 29th.
Again this year, both events will be held at Eagle Creek GC in Norwalk. The first tee time is ~9:30 and everyone is welcome to attend.
See Larry for further details or if you have any questions.

'Till Tuesday,
