DUFFERS 2008 MATCH PLAY TOURNAMENT
(edited 7/10/08)
With the popularity of past MATCH PLAY events, it was decided that a
season-long, single-elimination, bracket-type
MATCH PLAY TOURNAMENT will be held this Duffer Season.
Below is an explanation of that tournament.
Participation is entirely voluntary.
Entry is open to any dues paid member on a “first come, first served basis”.
Only 32 MATCH PLAYERS will be accepted, so if you want to play, get your dues
($100) and entry fee ($10) to Stanny A.S.A.P.!
Pairings are drawn completely at random.
The participants themselves will make all
playing arrangements.
Members phone numbers and e-mail
addresses can be found in the ‘roster’ section at the Duffer website.
Matches may only be played on Tuesdays during regularly scheduled Weekly
Tournament league play.
A bracket sheet will be available on the web site and posted on a bulletin
board. Handicaps are available on the
Skin sheet.
Matches must be played during
these posted dates.
1st round started May 6th and ended June 10th. (6 weeks)
2nd round started June 17th and
ended July 1th. (3 weeks)
3rd
round starts July 15th and ends July 29th. (3 weeks)
4th round starts August 5th and ends August 26th. (3 weeks,
possibly 4 depending on FunNite #3 format)
5th (final) round starts September 2nd and ends September
16th. (3 weeks)
Match Play Scoring…
For those who
might need it, here is a quick refresher explaining how Match Play is scored.
All MATCHES will be
differentially handicapped. That is to
say, strokes will be awarded to the player with the greater handicap on holes
that are the hardest.
For example say Mike has an 8 handicap while his
opponent; Larry has an 11 handicap.
Larry would receive three strokes, one stroke on each of the hardest
(lower handicapped) three holes. If
they were playing the back nine, Larry would get one stroke each on hole number
16, 13, and 10. In another example
Mike, a 5 handicapper, gives Pete, a 6 handicapper, 1 stroke. Pete would receive his 1 stroke on the
hardest hole (hole #16). The player having the lowest net score on a
hole is deemed to have won that hole.
Win more holes than your opponent and you are the winner of the
MATCH!
Since the usual Weekly
Tournament is run concurrently during all matches, no putts can be conceded
and, as usual,
all putts must be holed out!
Match Tiebreakers will be:
1) Total Net Score
2) Best net score by most difficult holes
(1st hcp thru 9th hcp).
3) A putt off
Each MATCH must be recorded on a separate score card with complete players
names and gross scores.
Make sure to mark it as a MATCH PLAY card and turn it into Stanny or place it
in the ‘skin box’.
The secretary will verify all results.
Should a replacement player be needed, it will be filled by a random draw of
losers from previous rounds.
Prize money will be paid
at the Final Outing according to the following schedule:
3rd Round losers - $20 each
4th Round losers - $40 each
5th Round loser - $60
Tournament winner - $100
I hope this adequately explains the MATCH PLAY TOURNAMENT.
