LEAGUE INFO…

Recap…
Tuesday, August 21st was the 19th official week of the DUFFERS 2007 season.  The weather, after three days of rain and drizzle, courtesy of former hurricane Erin, was warm, sticky, and SOGGY!  Not surprisingly, carts were restricted to the paths, but overall, Creekwood was in pretty good shape.  The ‘Consolation Tournament’ players missed an excellent opportunity to shoot at the pins and get back into the Championship.   L
We had, by far, our WORST attendance of the season with only 32 of 57 members (56%) and 2 guests make were way around the course.
Member attendance for the year has dropped another notch to 84%, while total attendance, including guests and make-up rounds dropped to 93%.

Pre-Play
'
The Rules Committee’ has amended the Pre-Play definition to state that; “Any round started before 4:00 Tuesday, according to “The Starters timepiece” will be considered a Pre-Play round.  If there is a question about the “official” time and you wish to avoid the ‘Pre-Play penalty, ask “The Starter” to verify that you and your group are teeing off after 4:00.
FYI, Pre-Play rounds remain capped at NET PAR or greater and are ineligible for Skins entry and/or KnockDown Points.

REMEMBER, you have one week to play your make-up round.  You must play the same side that the league was originally scheduled to play.  Turn your scorecards in to a Creekwood Clubhouse Counter Staff Member, asking them to place it in the Duffer File, or give it to Stanny personally on Tuesday.

Consolation Bracket…
With only Three weeks of regular season play remaining, I want to remind those of you who are in the ‘Consolation Tournament’ that you can get back into the ‘Championship Tournament’ by winning one of the remaining WEEKLY regular play TOURNAMENTS!  The POINTS tournament is winding down and although Chip Dubosh seems to be running any with the title, I should remind you that there is still one KnockDown Tournament remaining and we pay off three places in the Points Tournament.  So please make every effort to get to Creekwood and play yourselves either into the money or out of the ‘Consolation Tournament’!

’07 Scheduled Events
Here are the tentative dates (weather permitting) for this year’s remaining Duffer Events.

KnockDown…
Our final KnockDown is scheduled for Sept. 11th (back 9).
Note: As always, you must be present and play during the regular league hours to be eligible to receive KnockDown Tournament Points.

’07 Season Final Tournament & Outing…
Soon, I will start preparing for The Duffer Outing.  It’s time to start thinking about your groupings and tee times.
Most tee times will be available to ‘committed FOURSOMES’ on a first-come, first-served basis.  As you should know, the ‘07 Final Outing is being held at Creekwood Country Club, Saturday, September 15th at 9:00.  It’s usually an all day affair.  The only cost to members is $10 for entry into the Skins / Blind Bogey game.  All league members and guests will receive 18-holes (carts included), lunch at the turn, and dinner (steak roast, with all the trimmings) catered by Alexander’s Restaurant.  A prize ceremony will follow dinner.

As in any Duffer event, GUESTS are welcomed and encouraged to attend. If you wish to bring a guest to play in your foursome, the cost will be $75 (Skins / Blind Bogey included). As a reminder, guests are only allowed to participate in the Skins and Blind Bogey games and will not be included in the skill / luck events such as proximity shots and long drives where Duffer League money is awarded.

Extra meals for wives, girl friends, or significant others are available for $20 each.

A league member who is unable to attend ‘The Outing’ may designate a guest “proxy player” to attend at the reduced price of $50.

This ‘proxy player” program was instituted as a convenience to members who can’t attend ‘The Outing’ thus providing them the ability to give the gift of a “free lunch” and dinner to a friend, while still allowing ‘The League’ to maintain it’s significant prize pool.  “Proxy players” are included (at no extra cost) in the Skin / Blind Bogey game but are still considered guests and as such, are excluded from the ‘skill / luck’ games.

All guest, ‘proxy’, and extra dinner fees must be PAID IN FULL by Tuesday Sept. 11th.  Tee times and extra meals can only be guaranteed to 100% committed members and Paid-in-Full guests.

See Stanny if you have any questions or comments.

Skin News…
Our Skin Committee members are: Frank Bago, Patrick Keaton, Todd Cramer, Mickey Lima, and Gerry Rapp.
Their duties are to: ENCOURAGE participation from both members and guests, ensure correct sign-in and tabulation, watch and sort the money, ensure there is no ‘after posting’, assist in score keeping, and help with prize money distribution.  If you have any suggestions or ideas about how the Skin Game can be run more efficiently please see one of them or Stanny.

RESULTS for Wk #19
we had 28 out of the 34 players (82%) in the game for a pot of  $135…
Those not playing were:
Mark Clark
Jim Martin

Alex Martinez
Tim Roche
Norm Dickson (guests)
Gerry Pizzuli (guests)
Please, encourage your guests to participate in the Skin Game!
After all, they are taking away valuable tee times from your fellow ‘Duffers’.

Hey guys… it’s just like the lotto, ‘you can’t win if you don’t PLAY!

This weeks money winner$ were

Low net (29) – John Stanbrook – $27
Pin #4 – Todd Cramer – $27

Pin #7 – Allen Bass – $27

Three Skins were out @ $18 each
#2 – birdie – John Stanbrook
#3 – birdie – John Stanbrook
#5 – birdie – Gregg Randolph
Tradition dictates that the winners buy the drinks, or be heckled miserably!

NOTE… PLEASE DON’T PREMATURELY CIRCLE YOUR BIRDIES ON THE SKIN SHEET!  It’s a pretty television graphic presentation BUT it makes it VERY DIFFICULT to see the TRUE SKINS!

MORON’S CORNER… (Formerly JETHRO CIPHERS)
This is the spot where I will highlight (low light) the SPECIAL skills of Duffers and their simplistic mathematic disabilities.

9+5+6+4+7+4+3+6+8 = 52 not 55 – Donny Griffith
7+9+5+5+7+6+4+5+7 = 55 not 56 – Paul Scott

a friendly REMINDER…
It is each and every member’s personal responsibility to insure that his own score is CORRECTLY recorded (both gross and net) on the weekly skin / work sheet.  Even though you may not have been the person keeping score for the foursome, it is your duty to insure that it was done correctly!  Do it right and you won’t end up listed in the “Moron’s Corner”!

NOTE: If you wish to be considered for the ‘net’ portion of the ‘Skin Game’, the ‘net score box’ must be properly filled in.

LARRY LAHIFF'S SKIN GAMES…
are a great way to   s t r e t c h   the summer holiday weekends and play a round of golf with friends at one of the areas FINEST golf courses.

This years remaining date is Friday August 31st.

Again this year, the event will be held at Eagle Creek GC in Norwalk. The first tee time is ~9:30 and everyone is welcome to attend.
See Larry for further details or if you have any questions.

'Till Tuesday,
