LEAGUE INFO…

Recap…
Tuesday, June 26th was the eleventh official week and 2nd FunNite of the DUFFERS 2007 season.  The weather was hot and humid and the course was in excellent playing condition.  The FunNite attendance was surprisingly disappointing with only 47 (1 pre-play) of 57 members (82%) and 9 guests teeing it up.
Member attendance for the year is back up to 89%, while total attendance, including guests and make-up rounds has risen to an excellent 98%.

FYI…
Pre-Play has been defined as “Any round started before 4:00 Tuesday.

FunNite #2 was held last night, June 26th.
The scramble results can be seen on the Duffer home page.

The FunNite Committee (Patrick Keaton chairman) wishes to express his regret and apologizes to those who finished toward the end-o-the pack and were disappointed to discover that insufficient food had been ordered for last nights event.  The committee promises that the next FunNite (8/14) will provide ample FOOD and FUN to all members and their guests.
The Committee also expressed that two years of striving to entertain The Duffers is enough and if FunNites are going to continue into the 2008 season, a new set of FunNite Committee volunteers will be needed.  L

KnockDown #2
is being held Tuesday July 3rd.  In addition to the Weekly Tournament and usual card matching function of a normal KnockDown, extra BONUS POINTS will be available that evening to those of you who choose to play an actual HEAD-to-HEAD MATCH!

MATCH play info…

1) Participation in the KnockDown BONUS MATCH is entirely voluntary.  Some members have indicated an interest in a head-to-head Match Play Competition.  They feel it would present an opportunity to get to know and play with other members of the league besides their usual foursome of friends, that so many of us have a tendency to play in, week after week!

2) Pairings are available by clicking here or looking at Wk#11 Standings.  If you wish to participate in the KnockDown BONUS MATCH, you should contact your scheduled opponent to (1), see if he will be attending the night of the 3rd and (2), find out if he is interested in playing a head-to-head MATCH.  League member’s handicaps, phone numbers, e-mails, and number of missed weeks are available at 07 Roster’ and07 Report’.  Players whose scheduled opponents choose not to participate in the BONUS MATCH TOURNAMENT or are absent July 3rd will be considered an “available match player”.  You WILL NOT be considered an “available match player” simply because your scheduled opponent arrives later than expected.  Should you enter into the “available match player” pool early and play a MATCH with another “available match player” your match will be considered VOID if either of your scheduled opponents (who had, at an earlier time, indicated his desire to participate in the event) arrives at a later time.  Should a MATCH be ruled VOID, NO BONUS MATCH POINTS will be awarded to either player.

3) Bonus Points will be awarded to those who elect to play in a MATCH and to the winners of those matches.  Here is a list showing how the BONUS points will be awarded.

Play a MATCH with the person you are scheduled to be paired against

10 points

Play a MATCH with another “available match player”

  5 points

Win your MATCH

  5 points

Each hole won

  1 point

4) All MATCHES will be differentially handicapped.  That is to say, strokes will be awarded to the player with the greater handicap on holes that are the hardest.
For example look at the third scheduled pairing.  Mike Blaner has an 8 handicap while his opponent; Larry Lahiff has an 11 handicap.  Larry would receive three strokes, one stroke on each of the hardest three holes.  We will be playing the backside of the course so Larry would get one stroke each on hole number 16, 13, and 10.  In paring #4, Mike Milam (5) would give Pete White (6) 1 stroke.  Pete would receive his 1 stroke on the hardest hole  (hole #16).

5) A player having the lowest net score on a hole is deemed to have won that hole.  Win more holes than your opponent and you are the winner of the MATCH!  Since we will also be running the usual Weekly Tournament and KnockDown no putts can be conceded, as usual, all putts must be holed out!

I believe I have anticipated most questions and/or circumstances in the above paragraphs but if you have any questions or comments please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me.

Here are the tentative dates (weather permitting) for this year’s remaining Duffer Events.

Skin News…
Our Skin Committee members are: Frank Bago, Patrick Keaton, Todd Cramer, Mickey Lima, and Gerry Rapp.
Their duties are to: ENCOURAGE participation from both members and guests, ensure correct sign-in and tabulation, watch and sort the money, ensure there is no ‘after posting’, assist in score keeping, and help with prize money distribution.  If you have any suggestions or ideas about how the Skin Game can be run more efficiently please see one of them or Stanny.

RESULTS for Wk #11
we had 54 out of the 54 players (100%) in the game for a pot of  $540!!!

Thi$ week$ money winner$ were

Scramble winner (28) – Team #12 (Chichester) – $108
Pin #4 – Team #14 (Kennedy, Mike) – $108

Pin #7 – Team #09 (Campbell) – $108

Two Skins were out @ $108 each…
#5 – eagle – Team #13 (Bass)
#9 – eagle – Team #10 (Bago)
Tradition dictates that the winners buy the drinks, or be heckled miserably!

NOTE… PLEASE DON’T PREMATURELY CIRCLE YOUR BIRDIES ON THE SKIN SHEET!  It’s a pretty television graphic presentation BUT it makes it VERY DIFFICULT to see the TRUE SKINS!

MORON’S CORNER… (Formerly JETHRO CIPHERS)
This is the spot where I will highlight (low light) the SPECIAL skills of Duffers and their simplistic mathematic disabilities.

The corner is empty this week!  J

a friendly REMINDER…
It is each and every member’s personal responsibility to insure that his own score is CORRECTLY recorded (both gross and net) on the weekly skin / work sheet.  Even though you may not have been the person keeping score for the foursome, it is your duty to insure that it was done correctly!  Do it right and you won’t end up listed in the “Moron’s Corner”!

NOTE: If you wish to be considered for the ‘net’ portion of the ‘Skin Game’, the ‘net score box’ must be properly filled in.

LARRY LAHIFF'S SKIN GAMES…
are a great way to   s t r e t c h   the summer holiday weekends and play a round of golf with friends at one of the areas FINEST golf courses.

This years remaining dates are; Friday July 6th, and Friday August 31st.

Again this year, the event will be held at Eagle Creek GC in Norwalk. The first tee time is ~9:30 and everyone is welcome to attend.
See Larry for further details or if you have any questions.
