LEAGUE INFO…

Recap…
Tuesday, April 17th was the first official week of the DUFFERS 2007 season.  The weather was sunny and cool and with no snow or lightning in the area, the Duffers lined up at the first tee to get this year’s activities under way. It’s nice to finally get the practice rounds finished and begin the regular season.  Those of you, who decided not to experience a typical Duffer start, will have the usual 1-week to play your make-up round.
Attendance was disappointing considering the generally pleasant conditions!  Only 37 of 61 members (61%) and 2 guests made their way to the tee box.
Member attendance for the year is 61%, while total attendance, including guests and make-up rounds is 64%.

Also:
Even though no points are awarded to members whose dues are not paid-in-full, your make-up rounds are eligible for handicap and attendance purposes.  Maintain your Final Tournament Eligibility by having no more than two absences!

No Gimmies
Unfortunately for some members, no one at the ‘Spring Kick-off Meeting’ brought up the issue of holing out all putts. So, again this year…
Gimmies will not be permitted!  ALL PUTTS MUST BE HOLED OUT AT ALL DUFFER EVENTS.

With close to 60 members, the Duffers MUST play READY GOLF!
Be ready to hit when it’s your turn
.  Plan in advance; think about your impending shot while you’re approaching the ball and go ahead and hit it if there is no one else in the vicinity, regardless of who has honors.  If you are not in another player’s way, line up your putt while another player is hitting his.  Regardless of the ‘beer girl’ not everyone in the foursome needs to hang around the beer cart when she is present, someone should be hitting the ball while others are buying the beer.
Please recognize that your proper position on the golf course is behind the group in front of you, NOT in front of the group behind you!’

’07 Scheduled Events
Here are the tentative dates (weather permitting) for this year’s Duffer Events.

Fun Nites…
May 22nd, June 26th, and August 14th.
If you have any ideas about games or menu items that you feel might be appropriate, please see a committee member.  They are:
Patrick Keaton, Gerry Rapp, Frank Bago, Mickey Lima, and Dale Sandvick.

KnockDowns…
Are scheduled for: May 29th (front 9), July 3rd (back 9), August 7th (front 9), and Sept. 11th (back 9).

The second “Glenn McLaughlin Summer Solstice” Bonus Points Tournament…
June 19th (back + front)

Final Outing…
The Final Outing is being held Saturday, Sept. 15th, 9:00, at Creekwood Golf Course.  Mark your calendars now!

FYI, we will be enjoying a steak roast with all the trimmings, catered by Alexander’s.

Skin News…
Our Skin Committee members are: Frank Bago, Patrick Keaton, Todd Cramer, Mickey Lima, and Gerry Rapp.
Their duties are to: ENCOURAGE participation from both members and guests, ensure correct sign-in and tabulation, watch and sort the money, ensure there is no ‘after posting’, assist in score keeping, and help with prize money distribution.  If you have any suggestions or ideas about how the Skin Game can be run more efficiently please see one of them or Stanny.

Reminder to all Duffers, especially our ‘early bird special’ players:
All Skin Game entry (payment and entry indication) must be made on an official ‘Skin/Score sheet’ prior to teeing off.
Posting and/or paying after your round is completed, is not permitted.  To help those wishing to play early, thus taking advantage of an open tee box, Pat Anderson, who usually arrives early, has agreed to bring an official Skin/Worksheet and Skin box to accommodate Skin entry prior to Stanny’s arrival.  If anyone else would like to volunteer to bring an additional ‘early arrival Skin/Score sheet’, see Stanny for details.

SKIN RESULTS for Wk #01…
we had 36 out of the 39 players (92%) in the game for a pot of  $175
those not playing were…
Wayne Cerney
Jim Martin
unknown guest

Hey guys… it’s just like the lotto, ‘you can’t win if you don’t PLAY!

Low Net (35) – Mike Milam –  $35
Pin #4 – Frank Bago – $35

Pin #7 – Paul Scott –  $35

One Skin was out @ $70
#6 – birdie – Freddy Lima (guest)
Tradition dictates that they buy you a drink, or be heckled miserably!

NOTE… PLEASE DON’T PREMATURELY CIRCLE YOUR BIRDIES ON THE SKIN SHEET!  It’s a pretty television graphic presentation BUT it makes it VERY DIFFICULT to see the TRUE SKINS!

MORON’S CORNER… (Formerly JETHRO CIPHERS)
This is the spot where I will highlight (low light) the SPECIAL skills of Duffers and their simplistic mathematic disabilities.

45 - 9 = 36 not BLANK – Dick Ade
50 - 0 = 50 not BLANK – Mike Blaner
45 - 4 = 41 not BLANK – Mike Campbell
54 - 0 = 54 not BLANK – Jim Martin
43 - 3 = 40 not BLANK – Gerry Rapp
If you wish to be considered for the ‘net’ portion of the ‘Skin Game’, the ‘net score box’ must be properly filled in.

a friendly REMINDER…
It is each and every member’s personal responsibility to insure that his own score is CORRECTLY recorded (both gross and net) on the weekly skin / work sheet.  Even though you may not have been the person keeping score for the foursome, it is your duty to insure that it was done correctly!  Do it right and you won’t end up listed in the “Moron’s Corner”!

LARRY LAHIFF'S SKIN GAMES…
are a great way to   s t r e t c h   the summer holiday weekends and play a round of golf with friends at one of the areas FINEST golf courses.

This years dates are; Friday May 25th, Friday July 6th, and Friday August 31st.

Again this year, all three events will be held at Eagle Creek GC in Norwalk. The first tee time is ~9:30 and everyone is welcome to attend.
See Larry for further details or if you have any questions.

'Till Tuesday,
