Next Tuesday, April 17th

is the official start of the 2007 edition of the Duffers Golf League.

So far this year…

The spring kick-off meeting was held, where the usual and new business was conducted, practice rounds have been played, new members have been introduced, and dues have been collected.  All that’s left to do is, go over some procedures, count the membership, and head out to the teeing ground!

A FEW REMINDERS

DUES…
remain $100 and will be considered past due if not paid in full before teeing off this coming Tuesday, April 17th.  No Weekly Tournament Points will be awarded to members whose dues have not been paid in full, nor will you be able to participate in the weekly Skins Game.  If you have any questions or need special consideration concerning your dues speak with Stanny privately.

Skin / Worksheet…
It is each and every member’s personal responsibility to insure that his own score is CORRECTLY recorded (both gross and net) on the weekly skin / work sheet.  Even though you may not have been the person keeping score for the foursome, it is your duty to insure that it was done correctly!  Do it right and you won’t end up listed in the “Moron’s Corner”!

No Gimmies
Unfortunately for some members, no one at the ‘Spring Kick-off Meeting’ brought up the issue of holing out all putts. So, again this year…
Gimmies will not be permitted!  ALL PUTTS MUST BE HOLED OUT AT ALL DUFFER EVENTS.

SKIN GAME ($5.00)…
Remains voluntary and self serve.  It is open, yet restricted, to VISITORS and closed to league members whose dues are NOT paid in full.

13th Hole Explained (again)…
As noted in the local rules on the Creekwood scorecard, “The pine trees (left off the tee box) are planted on the boundary line”.  Therefore, any ball left of the pine tree trunks is to be deemed “Out of Bounds”, and the ball must either be dropped “In bounds, with-in two club lengths of the point it crossed the boundary line, or re-hit from its original position.”

The league has always understood and agreed that the reason for the left side “Out of Bounds” is to protect the players standing on or approaching the 14th tee.  With that understanding, the league plays the 13th hole as follows:

Once a players ball has cleared the corner of the 13th fairway, the remaining left ‘Out of Bounds’ (as indicated by white stakes), is not played as Out of Bounds.  For example, a player hits his second shot from the middle of the fairway (corner) and his ball strikes the tree near the left front of the 13th green and bounces left of the white stakes.  Since that player’s ball had already cleared ‘the corner’ his 3rd shot should be played from where it landed with no penalty incurred.  See Stanny or any other ‘veteran league member’ if you need any further clarification.

With close to 60 members, the Duffers MUST play READY GOLF!
Be ready to hit when it’s your turn
.  Plan in advance; think about your impending shot while you’re approaching the ball and go ahead and hit it if there is no one else in the vicinity, regardless of who has honors.  If you are not in another player’s way, line up your putt while another player is hitting his.  Regardless of the ‘beer girl’ not everyone in the foursome needs to hang around the beer cart when she is present, someone should be hitting the ball while others are buying the beer.
Please recognize that your proper position on the golf course is behind the group in front of you, NOT in front of the group behind you!’

Weather…

Once the regular season starts, ‘The Duffers’ usually play regardless of the weather.  Unless it’s snowing or lightening, ‘The Duffers’ usually play.  If it’s been raining all day, chances are better than 95% that it will clear up at Creekwood by 4:30, and ‘The Duffers’ will play.  Ask any member of long standing and they will tell you about the luck ‘The Duffers’ have with the weather, and ‘The Duffers’ will play.

Final Outing…
Is being held, Saturday, Sept. 15th @ 9:00, Steak roast catered by Alexander’s.
CLEAR YOUR CALENDARS NOW!

Dale Sandvick…
Fellow Duffer and owner of Creekwood GC would like to remind us all that it is each and every golfers responsibility and pleasure to…
REPLACE DIVOTS and REPAIR BALL MARKS.

That all being said, I am looking forward to another enjoyable Duffer Season. If you won’t be joining us this year, I hope that you’ll be able to play as a visitor or just stop by and enjoy a cold beverage with your Duffer friends.

Hope to see you soon,

John Stanbrook (Stanny)
