February 15, 2007

Hey Duffer,

It’s getting to be that time of year again, “Duffers 2007” is right around the corner.  Soon we will be enjoying pleasant, sunny, warm Tuesday evenings at Creekwood Country Club.  I’m writing to invite you to attend The Duffers Annual Spring Kick Off Meeting, being held Sunday, March 11th, 2007, 12:00 noon, at the Creekwood Club House.  Golf, if you are interested, will follow the meeting.

Let me remind you that this is your only opportunity to determine league policy for the up-coming season and that you need not be present to be voted onto a committee or elected to serve as a league officer.

As usual, all Topics are open to discussion, including these same old standards…

League Officer Elections

President…
Candidates must exhibit a genuine interest in the betterment of ‘The Duffers’ and a desire to be involved and assist with many League activities.

Secretary…
Candidates should possess organizational and mathematical skills, a love of the game, better than average understanding of the rules, and a real interest in the betterment of ‘The Duffers’.

Treasurer…
Candidates should be ‘trust worthy’, have good attendance, especially early in the season, and be able to interact well with his fellow league members.

Committee Elections and Appointments

Fun Night / Outing…
Members organize food, beverages, and games for the ‘Fun Night’ activities and assist at the Final Outing by collecting last minute skin monies, picking up prize placards, and assisting (if needed) with the scoring.

Skins…
Members assist with running the weekly skin game.  This year’s initial appointees are:
Frank Bago,
Patrick Keaton, Todd Cramer, Mickey Lima, Gerry Rapp, and Tom Thomason.

Rules…
Members officiate any rules disputes that might arise during league play.

Final Outing…

Date:    a) Establish a permanent rotation, which would ease scheduling conflicts and be fair to all members.
b) Anchor a fixed annual date.  Historically that date has been the first Saturday after Labor Day.
c) Continue to decide the date, after discussions, at the annual meeting.

Menu:   BBQ Ribs, Steaks, Clam Bake, or something else, have any ideas???

Other topics up for discussion this year are...

Should the existing tournaments, rules, and procedures (admin / skins / visitors) be continued, ‘as is’, or altered?

Should The League size be limited to help reduce the first tee crowding and ‘dusk play’ experienced last season?

Should The League take advantage of the earlier ‘Daylight Saving Time’ by starting a few weeks earlier?

Or, if you have any other ideas, suggestions, comments, or new members, please join us at the meeting.

Practice, Start, and ‘Final Outing’ Dates will be determined at the Meeting. Fun Nights and Knockdown Dates will be scheduled at the convenience of the Committee and the Secretary.  These dates will be conveyed to you in a follow-up ‘minutes report’.

I hope you’ve had a good and prosperous winter, and look forward to seeing you again soon.  As in years past, if I do not hear from you, I will assume that you will NOT be playing this year.

Sincerely,

John Stanbrook  (Stanny)
