LEAGUE INFO…

Recap…
Tuesday, August 1st was the fourteenth official week of the DUFFERS 2006 season.  The weather was hot, HOT, and HOT!  Which probably caused the awful attendance.  Our first group teed-off at 4:30 and our final group replaced the flagstick at 8:05.

Attendance was very bad with only 35 of 54 members (65%) and 3 guests (70%) making their way to the tee box.  Member attendance for the year has now slipped to 84%, while total attendance, including guests and make-up rounds is down to 90%.

REMEMBER, you have one week to play your make-up rounds.  You must play the same side that the league was originally scheduled to play.  Turn your scorecards in to a Creekwood Clubhouse Counter Staff Member, asking them to place it in the Duffer File, or give it to Stanny on Tuesday.

’06 Scheduled Events…
As a result of discussions held during the Spring Kick-off meeting, here is a list of tentative dates (weather permitting) for this year’s Duffer Events.

FunNites…
May 30th, June 27th, and August 8th

KnockDowns…
May 30th (front 9), July 11th (front 9), August 15th (back 9), and Sept. 5th (front 9).

FunNite #3…
is next Tuesday August 8th.  The food will be ROAST BEEF sandwiches, roasted corn-on-the-cob, and other fixin’s.
The Fun will be a 3-man team (you pick-‘em), GREEN BALL TOURNAMENT.  The event will be fully handicapped which will even out the field and prevent team stacking.  We will be playing regular weekly golf so Weekly Tournament Points will be awarded and those who miss the event should play a make-up round.

Here is how the GREEN BALL TOURNAMENT will be played.

Pick your own 3-man team.  Each team will be given one green golf ball to use in the event.  Your team must then finish the round with that ball, still in your possession, to be eligible for any prizes.

Each team member must alternately play 3 holes with the green ball.   For example, player ‘A’ will have the green ball on holes 1, 4, and 7, player ‘B’ will be given the green ball to play holes 2, 5, and 8.  Then player ‘C’ will play the green ball on holes 3, 6, and 9.   To add to the confusion, the tournament will be scored as a NET tournament, so the person hitting the green ball will record his ‘net’ score for the holes he plays with the green ball on the Team section of the scorecard and his gross score on the individual score row.  I know it’s confusing; maybe the example below will help.

FYI…
The GREEN BALL TOURNAMENT is 100% voluntary.  So if you are one of those four sums who must play together, three players can participate in the tournament while the forth player can play along for the fun of it all.  Since this is a net event, guests will not be able to participate but are welcome to come out and play along for the fun of it!

hint…
Choose your team members as well as your teams ROTATION wisely!  We will be playing the front side and there are six ‘water holes’ that come into play.  So, if you decide to gamble with the player who is getting two strokes on a hole, be prepared to loose the green ball and any chance your team may have had to finish ‘in the money’!

In case of a tie, total team putts will be used as the ‘tie breaker’ so COUNT YOUR PUTTS!
As always, questions and/or comments are welcome.

Skin News…
Our Skin Committee members are: Patrick Keaton, Gerry Rapp, Pat Anderson III, Randy Dudinsky, Frank Bago, & Todd Cramer.
If you have any suggestions or ideas about how the Skin Game can be run more efficiently please see one of them or Stanny.
Thanks for the help guys!  J

SKIN RESULTS for Wk #14…
we had 33 out of the 38 players (86%) in the game for a pot of  $170???
Those not playing were…
Al Feronti, Dave Haeberlie, and Rick Kayfes
Hey guys… it’s just like the lotto, ‘you can’t win if you don’t PLAY’!

Low Net (32) – Mike Baker – $35
Pin #12 – Tom Dickson – $35

Pin #17 – Mike Baker – $35

Three Skins were out at $23 each…
#10 – birdie – Gerry Rapp
#13 – birdie – Gregg Randolph
#14 – birdie – Donny Griffith
Tradition dictates that the winners buy you a drink, or be heckled miserably!
PLEASE DON’T PREMATURELY CIRCLE YOUR BIRDIES ON THE SKIN SHEET!  It’s a pretty television graphic presentation BUT it makes it VERY DIFFICULT to see the TRUE SKINS!

MORON’S CORNER… (Formerly JETHRO CIPHERS)
This is the spot where I will highlight (low light) the SPECIAL skills of Duffers and their simplistic mathematic disabilities.

The corner is unbelievably EMPTY again this week!  J

a friendly REMINDER…
Stay out of this column by taking a minute or two and check that the scorer in your foursome wasn’t a MORON too!

LARRY LAHIFF'S SKIN GAMES…
are a great way to   s t r e t c h   the summer holiday weekends and play a round of golf with friends at one of the areas FINEST golf courses.

This years remaining date is Friday September 1st.

Again this year, all three events will be held at Eagle Creek GC in Norwalk. The first tee time is ~9:30 and everyone is welcome to attend.
See Larry for further details or if you have any questions.
