March 27, 2006 (edited 4/24)

Greetings Fellow Duffer,

This info is only being posted on the Duffer web site.  If you have friends in the league with no Internet access, or other friends who wish to join the league, please pass this on to them.

Here are the results of the Spring Kick Off Meeting, held Sunday, at Creekwood Country Club. As usual, all topics were open to discussion and this was your only opportunity to determine this year League Policies.

2006 Tee Time = 4:41
Over the past few years ‘The Duffers’ have enjoyed almost unlimited access to the tee box.  Some ‘early birds’ were able to tee off ahead of the majority of the league to play their rounds quickly and unencumbered.  Unfortunately for those folks, this season Creekwood has scheduled a league ahead of us.  I doubt if we will be able to tee off much before our scheduled time, especially in the beginning of the season when league play is at it’s heaviest.

Play begins…

Practice rounds start April 4th; with the first official play date being April 25th

Fun Nights…

Weather permitting, are tentatively scheduled for May 23rd, June 27th, and August 8th
Only ‘token participation points’ will be awarded at these events.

KnockDowns…
Four KnockDowns have been scheduled and will be held (weather permitting) on the following dates…
May 30th (front 9), July 11th (front 9), August 15th (back 9), and Sept. 5th (front 9).

Final Outing…

Date:    Saturday Sept. 9th @ 9:30, MARK YOUR CALENDARS

            Place:   Creekwood Golf Course

Menu:   BBQ Ribs and chicken with all the trimmings

Other issues discussed and agreed upon were...

VISITORS…

Once again, The Visitor policy has been altered…

Guests have always been welcome to come out and enjoy a Duffer Tuesday evening at Creekwood Country Club.  Expanding the Duffer experience has been good for both the league and the golf course.

During regular Weekly Tournament play
The open-door guest policy will continue.  Any guest wishing to participate in the Skins Game will be allowed entry for the usual cost of $5.  The only amendment is that guests will NOT be eligible for PIN SHOTS or LOW NET.  Only league members whose dues have been paid-in-full will be permitted entry into The Skin Game.  This revised Skin Game policy will take effect the first official week of play, Tuesday April 25th, until then everyone is welcome to participate with no restrictions

Final Outing play…

Guests will continue to be welcomed at the final outing.  They are allowed entry into the skin / blind bogey game but will continue to be excluded from league skill games such as pin shots, long drive, and net skins.  Also, members who are unable to attend the Final Outing are permitted to send a ‘proxy player’ in his place.  This ‘proxy player’ will be charged the cost of golf and cart ($37.50) and be eligible to enter the Skin / Blind Bogey game as any visitor will be for the cost of $10.

No Gimmies…
This year NO GIMMIES will be permitted during any Duffer League events.  ALL PUTTS MUST BE HOLED OUT!

Nagle Rule suspended because it never came into effect.
It read as follows…  In order to win the weekly low net skin and entry into the Winners bracket, the player(s) who record the ‘low net’ must card at least one par during his winning round.  If no par was carded, prizes will be awarded to the next eligible player.

Past rules and procedures that will remain in effect…

Secretary & Treasurer

Stanny will continue as League Secretary and Treasurer under the existing terms.

Handicaps formula to remain the same  (87%)

Established League Members will again begin this season with a handicap that will be computed using league scores from last years 2nd half, (final outing included) and this years practice rounds.  The league standard adjustment factor of 87% will be used to calculate these handicaps.

New Member handicaps will be computed using an adjustment factor of 80% applied to their practice rounds.  Until they have established a handicap, new members must play with a scratch (zero) handicap, so getting their practice rounds played should be very important to them.  Once a new members handicap has been established, (3 rounds of league play) the league standard adjustment factor of 87% will be used in the computations.

Maximums…

All handicaps will remain limited to the USGA maximum for Creekwood GC of eighteen (18) for regular nine-hole league play, and thirty-seven (37) for the eighteen-hole tournament that is held during the Final Outing.

OUTING TOURNAMENTS…

The Winners Bracket Tournament remains modified so that anyone winning money in the League Championship Tournament will be removed from contention in the Winners Bracket Tournament.  This change should spread prize money around to more members.

Weekly Games…

Skin Game…
In addition to this year Visitor Policy, the Skin Game has been amended so that no ‘Late Entry’ will be accepted.  All Skin Game entry (payment and entry indication) must be made prior to teeing off.  Regardless of the Skin Game balance, posting and/or paying after your round is completed is no longer permitted.

Cash Prizes (Anglin Rule)…

To be eligible to receive any Duffer Cash Prize, the individual must have played the round with at least one fellow member who will confirm and attest to the accuracy of the score.

Make-Up Rounds…

Maintaining ones Final Tournament Eligibility has always been very important to The Duffers Golf League.  To help maintain that eligibility, missed regular weekly play dates can be made up at any time prior to the league teeing it up the next week.  Make up rounds must be played on the same nine holes that the league was originally scheduled to play the week that you missed.  In an attempt to place a premium on Tuesday attendance, make-up rounds will continue to be capped at a minimum of NET PAR.

DUES…

Dues will remain $100 to cover normal league expenses and maintain our substantial PRIZE POOL.  These dues are considered past due after the first official week of play, Tuesday April 25th.  If you have some special circumstances that prevent you from being able to pay your dues, please speak directly with Stanny, he will be glad to work with you to come up with a special personal payment arrangement.

In the continuing effort to collect dues in a more-timely manner, the league has decided to cancel the ‘points-for-pay’ policy. Any member whose dues are not PAID-IN-FULL by the first official play date, April 25th will receive NO POINTS and be EXCLUDED from the SKIN game until their dues have been paid.

FYI, as a reminder, last years Points Leader, Dan (Radar) Stanik, was awarded $130 and for the second year in a row, just one ‘half point’ kept a member ‘out of the money’.

Stanny wishes to express that CASH is still the preferred form of payment.  If you must pay by check, please make it payable to either CASH or John Stanbrook.   The Duffers do not have an open bank account, so any checks incorrectly made payable to ‘The Duffers’ will have to be returned and reissued.  If you wish to pay your dues by mail, send a properly endorsed check to:
