Recap…
Tuesday, June 27th was Wk #10, and the Duffers second of
three FunNites scheduled for the 2006 season. The weather was warm and humid, a typical
Cleveland summer evening. The FUN
portion of last night activities was a four-man SCRAMBLE but with the usual
Duffer twist. All those playing in the
scramble teed off from the ‘red’ tees and once on the green, putting was done
with a tennis ball. Twisted, to
say the least! J The food
was GREAT and thanks to Patrick Keaton and the rest of the outing Committee for
putting together a memorable FunNite!
Our first group teed-off at 4:37 while the final group replaced the
flagstick at 8:30. Being a
FunNite, attendance was unexpectedly poor with only 41 of 54
members (76%) and 3 guests enjoying the evening’s festivities. Member attendance for the year is now 86%,
while total attendance including guests and make-up rounds remains at 91%!

Because Tuesday’s activities were a special format, no make-up rounds
will be accepted and if you missed last night, it will NOT be held against
your attendance record.
Points Standings
are current as of Tuesday June 27th. These results will be used to determine pairings for KnockDown #2 which
is being held Tuesday July 11th.
ALSO, the Skin game that night will be a carry-over from June 20th
(Wk#9) when there were no skins out.
DON’T MISS IT!
Handicaps, Points, and
total Skin winnings are updated weekly.

KnockDown
#2
is being held Tuesday July 11th. In addition to the Weekly Tournament and usual card matching
function of a normal KnockDown, extra BONUS POINTS will be available
that evening to those of you who choose to play an actual HEAD-to-HEAD
MATCH! ALSO… the Skins
game pot is ENHANCED due to the carry-over.
MATCH play info…
1) Participation
in the KnockDown BONUS MATCH is entirely voluntary. Some members have indicated an interest in a
head-to-head Match Play Competition.
They feel it would present an opportunity to get to know and play with
other members of the league besides their usual foursome of friends, that so
many of us have a tendency to play in, week after week!
2) Pairings are available by clicking here or
looking at Wk#10 Standings. If
you wish to participate in the KnockDown BONUS MATCH, you should contact
your scheduled opponent to (1), see if he will be attending the night of
the 11th and (2), find out if he is interested in playing a
head-to-head MATCH. League member’s
handicaps, phone numbers, e-mails, usual arrival times, and number of missed
weeks have been added to the pairing list for your convenience. Players whose scheduled opponents choose
not to participate in the BONUS MATCH TOURNAMENT or are absent July 11th
will be considered an “available match player”. You WILL NOT be considered an “available
match player” simply because your scheduled opponent arrives later than
expected. Should you enter into the
“available match player” pool early and play a MATCH with another
“available match player” your match will be considered VOID if either of your
scheduled opponents arrives at a later time.
Should a MATCH be ruled VOID, NO BONUS MATCH POINTS will be awarded
to either player.
3) Bonus Points will be awarded to those who elect to play in a
MATCH and to the winners of those matches.
Here is a list of how the BONUS points that will be awarded.
|
Play a MATCH with the person you are scheduled to be paired against |
10 points |
|
Play a MATCH with another “available match player” |
5 points |
|
Win your MATCH |
5 points |
|
Each hole won |
1 point |
4) All MATCHES will be differentially handicapped. That is to say, strokes will be awarded to
the player with the greater handicap on holes that are the hardest.
For example look at the first scheduled pairings. Tom Thomasson has an 11 handicap a while his opponent, Randy
Dudinsky has a 3 handicap. Tom would receive
eight strokes, one stroke on each of the hardest eight holes. We will again be playing the front side of
the courses so Tom would get one stroke on every hole except hole #7, which is
rated the easiest hole on the front side.
In paring #2, Al Bass (3) would give Paul Scott (13) 10 strokes. Paul would receive two strokes on the
hardest hole (hole #1) and one stroke
on all of the remaining eight holes.
5) A player having the lowest net score on a hole is deemed to have won
that hole. Win more holes than
your opponent and you are the winner of the MATCH! Since we will also be running the usual Weekly Tournament and
KnockDown no putts can be conceded, as usual, all putts must be holed
out!
I believe I have
anticipated most questions and/or circumstances in the above paragraphs but if
you have any questions or comments please don’t hesitate to get in touch with
me.

Tradition
dictates that they buy you a drink, or be heckled miserably!
NOTE… PLEASE DON’T PREMATURELY CIRCLE YOUR BIRDIES ON THE SKIN SHEET! It’s a pretty television graphic
presentation BUT it makes it VERY DIFFICULT to see the TRUE SKINS!
MORON’S
CORNER… (Formerly JETHRO CIPHERS)
This is the spot where I will highlight (low light) the SPECIAL
skills of Duffers and their simplistic mathematic disabilities.
Since actual scores meant NOTHING last night, the corner is EMPTY this week! J
a friendly REMINDER…
Stay out of this column by taking a minute or two and check that the
scorer in your foursome wasn’t a MORON too!
LARRY LAHIFF'S SKIN
