Recap…
Tuesday, June 14th was the seventh official week of the DUFFERS 2005 season.  The weather was perfect after a thunderstorm and cloud burst earlier in the afternoon but, the Duffer weather luck prevailed and at tee time the conditions were perfect!  Creekwood C.C. has been a PLEASURE to play this year; did anyone else notice the EXCELLENT condition of the eighteenth fairway?  I sure hope Dale can maintain those conditions!  Attendance was a bit disappointing again this week with only 38 of 48 members (79%) and 2 guests making their way to the tee box.  Member attendance for the year remains 89%, while total attendance, including guests and make-up rounds is 93%.

The Glenn McLaughlin Summer Solstice Bonus Points Tournament…
So, you like playing golf, you like the Duffers, you like playing Skins, and you like getting BONUS POINTS!  Then this deal is for you.  Tuesday June 21st is the longest day of the year (sun sets @ 9:04 with twilight lasting until 9:38) and on this summer solstice evening at Creekwood, the Duffers will be playing the inaugural Glenn McLaughlin Summer Solstice Bonus Points Tournament.  What is the Glenn McLaughlin Summer Solstice Bonus Points Tournament you ask?  Simply stated it’s a second nine hole Weekly Tournament played for BONUS POINTS and Skins after the origin/official nine holes is completed.  Remember when you were a kid, how cool it was to stay out late when it was light so late in the summer, well, that’s the idea behind this event.  Get out with your friends, enjoy the fresh evening air, play eighteen holes instead of nine, have an excuses for getting home a little later, and get some BONUS POINTS!  So plan on staying late and playing eighteen holes this coming Tuesday, June 21st.  If you don’t play the 2nd nine holes, the POINTS you miss may come back to haunt you!    J

Solstice Format….
Here a few guidelines and answers to some of the “what if” questions that were raised yesterday.  First and foremost, the purpose of this event is FUN; with a few Bonus Points and Skins sprinkled in.  It’s meant to remind us of those late, lazy summer dusks and leisurely sunsets of our youth.  An opportunity to slow down, relax, unwind, turn off the cell phone, forget the wife and kids, let that customer issue go until tomorrow, and try to enjoy what I hope will be a beautiful summer twilight and sunset at Creekwood.  It’s not meant to be a three and a half hour sprint to get eighteen holes finished and get home by 8:00.  So, if you are a member of those early groups that must get out and get your round in, you might consider ‘sitting out’ the ‘solstice nine’.  To be eligible to participate in the ‘solstice event’ you will have to follow the Lakewood Mixed League around the back nine. I have talked to their president and he has agreed to try and urge his group off the tenth tee a bit earlier than usual so we can get started with the ‘solstice nine’ as soon as possible.

A few people asked me what we would do if it gets too dark and a group or two can’t finish.  Here’s what I’ve come up with.  The Skin Game will include only those holes that the entire field finishes.  Any unplayed holes will be assigned pars, bogies, or double bogies in accordance with the player’s handicap.  For example, players with handicaps between 1 and 7 will be assigned pars, players with handicaps between 8 and 12 will be assigned bogies and those players whose handicaps are 13 or greater will be assigned double bogies.

As far as I know, the cost for walking eighteen holes next Tuesday will be $22, while the cost for eighteen holes and a riding cart will be $33.  It has been suggested that Creekwood kick in something towards the effort so, Rick Kayfes, Duffers League President, Creekwood employee, and Dales’ nephew is looking into that possibility.

CREEKWOOD DAY…
Payment should already be made.
Our friends at Creekwood G.C. are celebrating their 45th anniversary, Saturday June 25th.  It’s a great way to celebrate summers arrival and party with your friends.  For only  $70 (cash or check) you get golf (18 holes, individual stroke play), ½ cart, lunch, dinner, beer, and PRIZES!  The menu, which is catered by Alexander’s, consists of a PIG ROAST, Bar-B-Q Chicken, sausage & kraut, rigatoni, salad, and all the trimmings.  Deadline for payment is Tuesday June 14th. See Amy, in the clubhouse, for details.

SKIN RESULTS for Wk #7…
we had 33 out of the 37 players (84%) in the game for a pot of  $160…

Those wimps not playing were…
Wayne Cerney
Joe Kayfes
Gerry Rapp – would have at least smashed a skin.
Scott Wickham – would have at least smashed a skin.

Patrick and Larry ought to buy those guys a beer!   L
Come on guys, join in the fun, it’s just like the lottery; ‘you can’t win if you don’t play’!

Low Net (26) – 82 year old, Bill Pfeil Sr. – $32  J
Pin #12 – Todd Cramer – $32
Pin #17 – Tom Melbar– $32

Five Skins were out at $13 each
#11 – eagle – Randy Dudinsky
#12 – birdie – Randy Dudinsky
#14 – birdie – Patrick Keaton – see Scott Wickham (above)
#15 – birdie – Tom Melbar – see Gerry Rapp (above)
#16 – par – Larry Lahiff – see Scott Wickham (above)
Tradition dictates that the winners buy you a drink, or be heckled miserably!

NOTE… PLEASE DON’T PREMATURELY CIRCLE YOUR BIRDIES ON THE SKIN SHEET!  It’s a pretty television graphic presentation BUT it makes it VERY DIFFICULT to see the TRUE SKINS!

MORON’S CORNER… (Formerly JETHRO CIPHERS)
This is the spot where I will highlight (low light) the SPECIAL skills of Duffers and their simplistic mathematic disabilities.

4+8+3+8+4+8+7+6+5 = 53 NOT 52Kevin Anderson
52-15 = 37 Not 38 – Paul Ebright
a friendly REMINDER…
Stay out of this column by taking a minute or two and check that the scorer in your foursome wasn’t a MORON too!
