(edited 05/07/09)
Tuesday, May 5th
is the official start of the 2009 season of the Duffers Golf League.

So far this year…

The spring kick-off meeting was held, where the usual and new business was conducted, practice rounds were played, new members have been introduced, and a few dues have been collected.  All that’s left to do is, go over some procedures, count the membership, and head out to the first tee!

I estimate that we will again have approximately 50+ members this year. Please contact me if you are planning to play with the Duffers this year.
As in years past, if I DON’T HEAR FROM YOU, I WILL ASSUME THAT YOU WILL NOT BE PLAYING!

A FEW REMINDERS

DUES…
remain $100 and will be considered past due if not paid in full before teeing off this coming Tuesday, April 28th.  No Weekly Tournament Points will be awarded to members whose dues have not been paid in full, nor will you be able to participate in the weekly Skins Game or the new 50/50 raffle.
If you have any questions or need special consideration concerning your dues speak with Stanny privately.

Skin / Worksheet…
It is each and every member’s personal responsibility to insure that his own score is CORRECTLY recorded (both gross and net) on the weekly skin/work sheet each and every week.  Even though you may not have been the person keeping score for the foursome, it is your responsibility to insure that it was done correctly!  Do it right and you won’t end up listed in the “Moron’s Corner”!

SKIN GAME ($5)…
Our popular Skin Game remains voluntary and self serve.  It continues to be closed to ALL VISITORS and league members whose dues are NOT paid in full.
Skins prizes are paid out at the following schedule:
Low Net = 20%, Pin Shot #1 = 20%, Pin Shot #2 = 20%, and Skins = 40% of the total Skin pot.
This breakdown seems to make the game fair to all and encourages participation by almost all members.

50/50 raffle ($1)…
This new venture was instituted in an attempt to increase the Duffer Prize Pool without raising our Duffer Dues.  As the name suggests, 50% of the prize pool will go to a Duffer member each week and 50% will go to the Duffer general fund.  Entry into this game is as easy as the Skin Game, just place $1 in Skin Box and ‘X’ off the number next to your name in the 50/50 column.  Skip Skufca will draw the winning number each Tuesday after the completion of his round.  Like the Skin Game, winners who leave Creekwood early and are not present to collect their winnings will have their names highlighted in yellow on the Skin/Work Sheet and their winnings will be placed in the Skin box on the next Tuesday.

Reminder to all Duffer members:
Your participation in these extracurricular games is voluntary yet robustly encouraged!  Please join the majority of your fellow Duffers in the enjoyment and competition of these games.  It will add to your Duffer experience and it might add a few extra dollars to your pocket. Remember, you can’t win if you don’t play!

No Gimmies
As decided at the Spring Kickoff Meeting, again this year, Gimmies will not be permitted!
ALL PUTTS MUST BE HOLED OUT AT ALL DUFFER EVENTS.
Any member who accepts a GIMMIE is potentially taking points away from other members and is deemed to be cheating.
Chip Dubosh will be glad to discuss this issue with anyone who doesn’t quite understand the rule.

Roped areas…
Yellow roped areas through the green indicate seeded areas and Ground Under Repair.  Players whose ball enters these areas MUST take relief by dropping their ball outside of the roped area, no closer to the hole, (without penalty).

13th Hole Explained (again)…
The left out-of-bounds starts at the white post near the shelter to the left of the 13th tee box and follows the line of white stakes to the corner.  Therefore, any ball left of the stakes is deemed to be “Out of Bounds”.  The ball must either be dropped “In bounds”, with-in two club lengths of the point it crossed the boundary line, or re-hit from its original position. In either case, a penalty of one stroke is incurred.

The league has always understood and agreed that the reason for the left side “Out of Bounds” is to protect the players standing on or approaching the 14th tee box.  With that understanding, the league plays the 13th hole with the following amendment:

Once a players ball has cleared the corner of the 13th fairway, the remaining left ‘Out of Bounds’ (as indicated by white stakes), is not played as Out of Bounds.  For example, a player hits his second shot from the middle of the fairway (corner) and his ball strikes the tree near the left front of the 13th green and bounces left of the white stakes.  Since that player’s ball had already cleared ‘the corner’ his 3rd shot should be played from where it landed with no penalty incurred.  See Stanny or any other ‘veteran league member’ if you need any further clarification.

With 60+ members, the Duffers MUST play READY GOLF!
Be ready to hit when it’s your turn.  Plan in advance; think about your impending shot while you’re approaching the ball and go ahead and hit it if there is no one else in the vicinity, regardless of who has honors.  If you are not in another player’s way, line up your putt while another player is hitting his.  Regardless of the ‘beer girl’ not everyone in the foursome needs to hang around the beer cart when she is present, someone should be hitting the ball while others are buying the beer.
Please recognize that ‘your proper position on the golf course is behind the group in front of you, NOT in front of the group behind you!’

Weather…
Once the regular season starts, ‘The Duffers’ usually play regardless of the weather.  Unless it’s snowing or lightening, ‘The Duffers’ usually play.  If it’s been raining all day, chances are better than 95% that it will clear up at Creekwood by 4:20, and ‘The Duffers’ will play.  Ask any member of long standing and they will tell you about the luck ‘The Duffers’ have with the weather, and ‘The Duffers’ will play.

Final Outing…
Is being held, Saturday, Sept. 12th @ 9:00, BBQ Ribs with chicken and all the trimmings will be catered by Lone Tree Tavern.
CLEAR YOUR CALENDARS NOW!

Dale Sandvick…
Fellow Duffer and owner of Creekwood GC would like to remind us all that it is each and every golfers responsibility and pleasure to…
REPLACE DIVOTS and REPAIR BALL MARKS.

That all being said, I am looking forward to another enjoyable Duffer Season. If you won’t be joining us this year, I hope that you’ll be able to play as a visitor or just stop by and enjoy a cold beverage with your Duffer friends.

Hope to see you soon,
