Hey Duffer,
Weekends have me thinking of GOLF! Two
weeks ago we were enjoying our first thaw of the winter with south winds and
near 60-degree temperatures. This
weekend, “The Golf Show”, at the IX Center, was in full swing. Next weekend, Tiger Woods is playing in the
WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship!
“Duffers 2009” has to be right around the corner!
I’m writing to invite you to attend The Duffers 29th Annual Spring Kick
Off Meeting, being held Sunday, March 15th, 2008, 12:00 noon,
at the Creekwood Club House. Golf, if
you are interested, will follow the meeting.
Let me remind you that this is your only
opportunity to determine league policy for the up-coming season and that you
need not be present to be voted onto a committee or elected to serve as a
league officer.
As usual, all Topics are open to discussion, including these
same old standards…
President…
Candidates must exhibit a genuine interest in the betterment of ‘The
Duffers’ and a desire to be involved and assist with some League
activities.
Secretary…
Candidates should possess organizational and mathematical skills,
a love of the game, better than average understanding of the rules, and a real
interest in the betterment of ‘The Duffers’.
Treasurer…
Candidates should be ‘trust worthy’, have good attendance, especially early
in the season, and be able to interact well with his fellow league
members.
Fun Night / Outing…
Members organize food, beverages, and games for
the ‘Fun Night’ activities and assist at the Final Outing by collecting last
minute skin monies, picking up prize placards, and assisting (if needed) with
the scoring.
Skins…
Members assist with running the weekly skin game. This year’s initial appointees are:
Chip Dubosh, Skip Skufca, Mark Sustarsic, Mike Milam, and Todd Cramer.
Other topics up for discussion this year are...
Should we raise Dues ($100 - $120) to cover increased costs, maintain
our substantial prize pool, continue with three FunNites, and provide Lunch at the Final Outing?
Should the existing tournaments, rules, and procedures (dues
/ skins / putts / visitors) be continued, ‘as is’, or altered?
Should we alter the ‘MAKE-UP ROUNDS’ modification of minus 8 points
to a maximum of average points won during regular TUESDAYS play?
Should the voluntary, season long, single elimination ‘MATCH Play’
bracket tournament be continued?
Should our ’more experienced’ members be permitted to use the senior
tee boxes?
Or, if you have any other ideas, suggestions, comments, or new members,
please join us at the meeting.
2009 Dates and Times of interest…
Tee Time… remains 4:20 with the
same league line-up and tee times as last year.
Practice Rounds… March 24 (back-9),
March 31, and April 7.
Season Start… 1st
official week, April 21. (Dues must be
paid-in-full)
Fun Nights… May 19, July 7, and
August 11. (tentative schedule
depending on volunteers and weather)
KnockDowns… May 26, (front);
June 30, (back); August 18, (front); and September 8, (back).
Final Outing… Saturday September
12, (9:00 a.m.)
I hope you’ve had a good and prosperous winter, and look forward to
seeing you again soon.
As in years past, if I do not hear from you, I will assume that you will NOT be
playing this year.
Sincerely,
John Stanbrook (Stanny)
