As of January 5, 2002, I have adopted a POW/MIA. His name is Willaim Chomyk from Hicksville, New Yoork. He was born on April 3rd, 1943 and was last seen on April 22, 1968 in South Vientnam.
He was an Air Force pilot in the 289th Tactical Fighter Squardron and stationed at the DaNang Airbase in South Vietnam. At the age of 25, Captain William Chomyck and Major Robert P. Riggins left the airbase aboard a F4D Phantom on a mission invovling two bomber/fighters over Thua Thien Province near the city of Hue.
As Captain Chomyk's arcraft made a pass of the target, it pulled off and then crashed. There was no other information available. The five years and one month later, on May 7th, 1973, he governemtn received unspecified evidence and declared Captain Chomyk KIA/BNR, like thay had so many others.
The government, as far as we know, has not located the remains of Captain Chomyk or Major Riggins and have not disclosed any information about his death or remains. The only information that has been disclosed is what you have read above.
It is people like you and I that can bring the truth to the surface about what has happened to gret men like Captain Chomyk and Major Riggins. It is only people like you and I that can ask why they or their remains have not been recovered and brought home to their families. I strongly urge you to adopt a POW/MIA today.
