What is Sam getting?

Well, you've been waiting very patiently for a while now. I finally got the info from Sam as to what kind of chemotherapy he has been receiving.

Its formal name is methotrexate--say that 3x fast! It is formally broken down into three (that's the tre in the middle of the formal name) primary chemicals: Folex, Mexate, Rheumatrex Dose Pack.

It may be administered via IV (IntraVenously), intrathecally (through the spinal column), or orally.

Some symptoms of this chemical include

  • nausea and vomiting
  • decrease in blood cell counts
  • mouth ulcers
  • skin rashes
  • dizziness, headache, or drowsiness
  • kidney damage (with a high-dose therapy)
  • liver damage
  • seizures

All the above data was compiled from the Cook Children's Hospital site.

For more information on this particular drug, please visit this WIKIPEDIA link.
