Drafting a Paper
Something positive that I like to do is draw objects using the AutoCAD program. In my drafting class, the project is to draft my house. I can compare creating my house to my writing process. When I started working on the project, the first thing I did was look at the certain requirements that go toward it. The next thing was to list steps that I needed to take to complete the project. After I figured it out, it was time to go into action. I had to take measurements of every part of the house outside and inside.
After I gathered all the measurements of the house, it was time to put it together. I set up the tools on the program that I needed to start drawing. I drew the outside of the house and started to put in each room. Then I took measurements of each window and door and put those into the drawing. When I finished the house, I added dimensions to show the measurements that I took. Then I made sure they were correct so the instructor could see it. The dimensions have to be the correct size and format, like a paper would have the right font and paragraph format.
When I get a writing assignment to do, I read the directions to figure out what kind of paper I am writing. This is the same as listing the steps before I start my project. Then I will create an outline that lists the things I will write about. If it is a research paper, then I will check sources to get the information that I need to write the paper. I will use the information on my paper like I use the measurements for my project. The first paragraph that I write is the outside of the house, and it explains what the paper will be about. The paragraphs after that are like the rooms that I put inside the house, and they give the paper detail.
The last paragraph is the windows and doors which I add to the house. This is the conclusion, and it finalizes the paper. When the paper is finished, I read it over and check for any mistakes and make the corrections. This is like adding the dimensions to the house because it will show you if your measurements are incorrect and how much you need to change the measurement by. The tools that I use to draw my house are the commas and semi-colons that I use for my paper to make it look proper.
When I am drafting, if there is a tool that I do not know how to use, I go to my engineering book to read about it. When I need to figure out where I should put a coma or an apostrophe, I go to my grammar book. When I turn in the house or a paper, I hope that the instructor will be able to understand it and make little or no corrections to it. My writing process compared to drafting my house is similar. They put information together and have to have certain requirements.
